Graham Port

graham-vintage-port Graham’s are one of the most outstanding producers of vintage port. Their wines are renowned for their remarkable, richness, concentration and firm tannic strucure which combines to give them remarkable longevity. production is centred on the Malvedos vineyard, one of the most famous within the Duro region. Grapes from Malvedos are responsible for providing the famous house style: intense floral notes, opulent berry fruit flavours and racy flair. The Malvedos vineyard also lends its name to the famous single quinta produced in years when there is no declaration. Graham's have a history spanning three centuries, dating back to 1820 when two brothers, William and John Graham, established the business in Oporto. Today, Graham’s is owned by the famous Symington family, who continue to produce some of Portugal’s finest wines. Their Vintage ports are only produced in the best years, and these ports are always superb quality and long-lived.

Graham Port, 1942

Graham Port, 1942

Vintage Port
Description: Declared by some shippers, despite the war, and in some cases declared and bottled in 1945 to celebrate Victory. First Vintage to be bottled exclusively in Portugal, rather than shipped in cask as was customary.

Little known, and production was small due to continued post-war restrictions, but well-cellared wines are still a pleasure.

Graham Port, 1963

Graham Port, 1963

Vintage Port
Description: An outstanding 1963 Port scoring 96/100 Parker Points.

Reviews: "What a stunning 1963 vintage port this is! The bouquet draws you in, does not drag you in with its alcohol and reveals a fresh, well defined nose with a nutty edge, hints of cigar box and allspice. The palate is beautifully balanced, understated on the entry but building all the time, flashes of eucalyptus leading towards a more extrovert, clove tinged finish that hangs around the palate. Gorgeous Grahams! Tasted May 2009." Neil Martin, Wine Journal

Graham Port, 1970

Vintage Port
Description: *** 93 Points (Parker) ***

"...a definite Bordeaux-like nose! Well defined, foursquare at first, opening up nicely with maraschino cherries, cloves, burnt wood/embers and bergamot, gaining intensity all the time in the glass. The palate is very harmonious and elegant. Fleshy, harmonious, seductive on the palate with allspice, nutmeg and ginger sprinkled over the viscous finish and finally, freshly rolled tobacco on the aftertaste. Good length, powerful like many of the 1970 ports continue to be. Superb. Drink now-2020+ Neil Martin Wine Journal Tasted September 2009.

"The 1970 is a monumental vintage port and one of the greats of the vintage.

Vintage Port (SPECIAL OFFER WAS £79 now £59)

Reviews: Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. The 1983, like most vintage ports, seems more forward than normal but has a great depth of very ripe, viscous, unctuous, plummy, tarry fruit and significant tannin in its long finish. It is black-purple in color. This is is certainly one of the top two or three ports of this vintage, and better than the excellent 1980.

Graham Port, 1994

Graham Port, 1994

Vintage Port
Description: 96 Points (parker)

Reviews: "In a port tasting, tasting Graham's is almost like tasting a big, rich, succulent Merlot after a group of blockbuster, tannic Cabernets. Sweeter and more obvious than many ports, the opaque purple-colored 1994 is fruity, powerful, and rich, with an addictive hedonistic quality. It will be ready to drink in 8-10 years and keep for up to 30. As always, this is a showy, flamboyant port that has the advantage of being slightly sweeter than other 1994s. A great Graham's. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2035." Parker Wine Advocate 1996

Quinta Dos Malvedos Vintage Port ( Half Bottle 37.5cl)
Description: *Roy Hersh 93-95+ points (10/3/06)*

The Malvedos has really fleshed out since I first tried it in late June. Having received considerably more decanting time, (I believe I heard 5 hours mentioned) which also helped. This '04 is an inky purple monster that presented spicy and floral notes with the essence of pure blueberry. Ultra-ripe on the palate with prune and juicy blackberry flavors that come to the fore. Good depth and medium tannins show the stuffing is all there, while finishing with a long chocoholics dream of an aftertaste.

Graham Port, 2007

Vintage Port
Description: 97 Points Wine Advocate

Reviews: "A candidate for wine of the vintage, the 2007 Graham’s Vintage Port is complete in every way. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up an ethereal perfume of smoke, mineral, Asian spices, incense, an amalgam of ripe black fruits, and a hint of chocolate in the background. This leads to a dense, super-rich, plush, opulent wine that hides its structure under all the fruit. Vibrant, impeccably balanced, and exceptionally lengthy, it will easily age for another 25-30 years in the cellar and drink well through 2050, probably longer. It is a tour de force." Graham Port, 2011

Late Bottled Vintage Port in Gift Tubes
Description: The 2011 Graham´s Late Bottled Vintage Port (LBV) is a superb wine, selected from the finest production of a very good year. Whereas vintage Port spends two years in casks and then matures in bottle, LBV is matured in seasoned oak and then bottled at between four and six years of age; hence the term, ‘Late Bottled’. Its ageing process encourages the wine’s development; at the time of bottling it is therefore ready for drinking without the need for decanting.

Graham´s LBV represents centuries of experience and craftsmanship and is a reflection of the people who contribute to the making of the wine in the vineyard, the cellars, the cooperage and the tasting room, as well as the Graham´s Lodge where it ages since shortly after the harvest.

Allowing the purchase of Vintage Port while the wine is still on the vine guarantees that a certain quantity of the wine produced will be reserved for the holder of the bond.
