Graham Port

graham-vintage-port Graham’s are one of the most outstanding producers of vintage port. Their wines are renowned for their remarkable, richness, concentration and firm tannic strucure which combines to give them remarkable longevity. production is centred on the Malvedos vineyard, one of the most famous within the Duro region. Grapes from Malvedos are responsible for providing the famous house style: intense floral notes, opulent berry fruit flavours and racy flair. The Malvedos vineyard also lends its name to the famous single quinta produced in years when there is no declaration. Graham's have a history spanning three centuries, dating back to 1820 when two brothers, William and John Graham, established the business in Oporto. Today, Graham’s is owned by the famous Symington family, who continue to produce some of Portugal’s finest wines. Their Vintage ports are only produced in the best years, and these ports are always superb quality and long-lived.

Graham Port, 1942

Graham Port, 1942

Vintage Port
Description: Declared by some shippers, despite the war, and in some cases declared and bottled in 1945 to celebrate Victory. First Vintage to be bottled exclusively in Portugal, rather than shipped in cask as was customary.

Little known, and production was small due to continued post-war restrictions, but well-cellared wines are still a pleasure.

Graham Port, 1991

Vintage Port
Description: *** 94 Points Robert Parker ***

"Graham's 1991 Vintage Port gets my nod as the port of the vintage. While keeping in mind that Graham's aims for a sweeter-styled port, there is no doubting the opaque purple/black colour, or the explosive nose of black fruits, licorice, spring flowers, and tar. Thick and full-bodied, with a satiny texture and a blockbuster, alcoholic finish, this is a top-notch vintage port." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 1995. Drink now to 2030+

Graham Port, 1994

Vintage Port
Description: 96 Points (parker)

Reviews: "In a port tasting, tasting Graham's is almost like tasting a big, rich, succulent Merlot after a group of blockbuster, tannic Cabernets. Sweeter and more obvious than many ports, the opaque purple-colored 1994 is fruity, powerful, and rich, with an addictive hedonistic quality. It will be ready to drink in 8-10 years and keep for up to 30. As always, this is a showy, flamboyant port that has the advantage of being slightly sweeter than other 1994s. A great Graham's. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2035." Parker Wine Advocate 1996

Quinta Dos Malvedos Vintage Port (Half Bottle 37.5cl)
Description: *Roy Hersh 93-95+ points (10/3/06)*

The Malvedos has really fleshed out since I first tried it in late June. Having received considerably more decanting time, (I believe I heard 5 hours mentioned) which also helped. This '04 is an inky purple monster that presented spicy and floral notes with the essence of pure blueberry. Ultra-ripe on the palate with prune and juicy blackberry flavors that come to the fore. Good depth and medium tannins show the stuffing is all there, while finishing with a long chocoholics dream of an aftertaste.

Vintage Port
Description: 97 Points Wine Advocate

Reviews: "A candidate for wine of the vintage, the 2007 Graham’s Vintage Port is complete in every way. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up an ethereal perfume of smoke, mineral, Asian spices, incense, an amalgam of ripe black fruits, and a hint of chocolate in the background. This leads to a dense, super-rich, plush, opulent wine that hides its structure under all the fruit. Vibrant, impeccably balanced, and exceptionally lengthy, it will easily age for another 25-30 years in the cellar and drink well through 2050, probably longer. It is a tour de force." Grahams Port Bond (Single Bottle 1x75cl)
Description: It has long been a tradition for special occasions to be marked by the laying down of Vintage Port from the year of the event. Problematically, due to the fact that a Vintage year is normally only declared in the second year after the harvest, the recipient of the gift often has to remain empty handed until sometime after the celebration.

In order to overcome this problem, Grahams are now the first Port company to provide a Vintage Port bond which is available for purchase in the year of harvest. Allowing the purchase of Vintage Port while the wine is still on the vine guarantees that a certain quantity of the wine produced will be reserved for the holder of the bond.

Graham Port, 1882

Ne Oublie
Description: The Symington family has released 656 bottles of a Port that dates back to the arrival of their great-grandfather Andrew James Symington in Portugal in 1882.

The family have named this wine ‘Ne Oublie’ after the original Graham’s family motto and for the company where Andrew Symington started his life’s work. The name reflects the respect with which the family regard their great-grandparents’ joint decision to commit themselves and their descendants to Portugal, to the Douro and to Port.

Now 130 years later his direct descendants have bottled one of the remaining three barrels. The other two barrels have been entrusted to the next generation of the family and it is they who will decide their future, in 2025 at the earliest.
