Graham's Port

graham-vintage-portGraham’s, one of the most outstanding producers of vintage port, owns five separate mountainous vineyards, located in different parts of the Douro region – each with the maximum ‘A’ grade classification. They have left as much of the original wild plant life undisturbed as possible, preserving biodiversity to contribute to unique and powerfully expressive wines reflective of the terroir. Graham's wines are renowned for remarkable richness, concentration and firm tannic structure which combine to give brilliant longevity. The House style is known by its intense floral notes, opulent berry fruit flavours and flair.

The story of Graham’s is that of two families, across three centuries. Founded in 1820 by two brothers, William and John Graham, the company was one of the first to invest in its own vineyards in the Douro Valley, and remains a pioneer innovating new techniques in winemaking to this day. Today, since their acquisition by Symington Family Estates, five Symington cousins share responsibility for the company. The Symington family has also been involved with Port for generations. Nearly a century after their ancestor AJ Symington left the employ of Graham’s to strike out on his own, the family came full circle to return to the company.

Graham’s only produce Vintage ports in the very best years, creating superb long-lived quality, but on undeclared years produce their famous Single Quinta ports from the Quinta dos Malvedos.

Graham's Port, 1970

Vintage Port bottled for Army and Navy Stores
Labels bin soiled
Excellent provenance

*** 93 Points (Parker) ***

"...a definite Bordeaux-like nose! Well defined, foursquare at first, opening up nicely with maraschino cherries, cloves, burnt wood/embers and bergamot, gaining intensity all the time in the glass. The palate is very harmonious and elegant. Fleshy, harmonious, seductive on the palate with allspice, nutmeg and ginger sprinkled over the viscous finish and finally, freshly rolled tobacco on the aftertaste. Good length, powerful like many of the 1970 ports continue to be. Superb. Drink now-2020+ Neil Martin Wine Journal Tasted September 2009.

"The 1970 is a monumental vintage port and one of the greats of the vintage.

Graham's Port, 1977

Vintage Port

The 1977 Graham's vintage port is a stunning example of a fully declared vintage. Intense candied fruit aromas intermingle with cinnamon and clove spice leading to a palate of sweet jammy figs and milk chocolate notes. A fine port with long lingering finish that is ready for drinking now but, obviously as with all great ports, has many years ahead of it.

Graham's Port, 1980

Vintage Port

Purple fading to red and finally pink at the rim. Rich blackberries on the nose along with very faint stewed strawberries. The tannins were powerful on Christmas day but mellowed some by the next evening. The blackberries carried through as a prominent flavor, but added a sourish note almost like a sour cherry. The finish starts out with a rich butter cookie note, but then quickly switches to grape stem.

Graham's Port, 1984

40 Year Old Tawny Port
450cl Bottle - in wooden presentation box

Graham's 40 Years Old is made from wines of the very highest quality which, following careful selection, are matured in seasoned oak casks of until their peak of maturity is reached. These are among the most demanding and challenging styles of Port to produce requiring great skill and years of experience from the winemaker and blender. It is essential to strike the correct balance between the delicacy and elegance which results from prolonged cask ageing while retaining the fruit quality which lends this old Tawny its structure and longevity.

Golden amber with a pale green tinge at the rim which denotes great quality and class.

Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port
Grahams Library stock release

The 1984 Grahams Malvados has been stored in Grahams cellars until purchase by VWP in 2021 - The bottles are in exceptional condition.

The 1984 still has some youth evident on the colour. A delightful, fruit-laden nose, which takes considerable time in the glass to open up. Macerated black fruits and figs, covered in a thin layer of chocolate. Rich, full bodied, but quite forward and fruit dominated on the palate. A lovely texture, quite creamy and sweet, to match this fruit. Some powerful tannins in the background, although these really do play a minor role, only showing on the finish.

At the heart of Graham’s Vintage Ports are the wines from the company’s famed Quinta dos Malvedos.

Graham's Port, 1994

Single Harvest Tawny Port
Includes Original Gift Tube

The 1994 Grahams Single Harvest has incredible aromas of dried fruit leaping from the glass. The palate is intensely flavoured with lovely notes of dried orange, and spice wrapped up in a full-bodied smooth texture. This is offset by a lovely note of molasses and figs. Perfectly balanced with a long finish this Graham’s 1994 Tawny Port is a treat and a rarity.

Colheita Port Storage and Serving Advice:
Colheita Port should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position. If stored correctly, Colheita Ports will keep for decades in the bottle.

Graham's Port, 1994

Vintage Port

96 Points (parker)

Reviews: "In a port tasting, tasting Graham's is almost like tasting a big, rich, succulent Merlot after a group of blockbuster, tannic Cabernets. Sweeter and more obvious than many ports, the opaque purple-colored 1994 is fruity, powerful, and rich, with an addictive hedonistic quality. It will be ready to drink in 8-10 years and keep for up to 30. As always, this is a showy, flamboyant port that has the advantage of being slightly sweeter than other 1994s. A great Graham's. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2035." Parker Wine Advocate 1996

Graham's Stone Terraces, Vintage Port, Douro
In Presentation Case

A rare bottle of Graham's Stone Terraces Vintage Port.

At Graham’s Quinta dos Malvedos two parcels have produced consistently extraordinary wines which for years have been at the heart of Graham’s declared Vintage Ports.

Both Parcel #43, known as Port Arthur, and #37, Vinha dos Cardenhos, are planted on old stone-walled terraces, Port Arthur facing primarily east and Vinha dos Cardenhos facing north. The combination of their aspects and their being on stone walled terraces which hold and reflect the heat of the sun, makes the wines from these two parcels very different in character from the rest of the primarily south-facing soil-terraced quinta.

Graham's Port, 2015

Vintage Port, Douro
THE STONE TERRACES
Presented in Grahams Gift Box
***93 Points- James Suckling***

The 2015 Graham's Vintage Port Wine comes from a limited release of 400 cases from The Symington family's Stone Terraces vineyards, which occupy just 2.9 hectares of its iconic Quinta dos Malvedos, of which the total area under vine is 90 hectares. Acquired in 1890, this property is acknowledged to be in one of the Upper Douro Valley’s most favourable sites. It has been the source of some of the greatest Vintage Ports ever made. The Stone Terraces vineyard at Quinta dos Malvedos produced an extraordinary wine in 2015. The grapes were picked by hand over the weekend of the 12th/13th of September, a couple of days before substantial rain fell across the Douro Valley, and were subsequently fermented in lagares at the estate’s own small winery.

A quite brilliant Graham’s, one of the ports of the vintage, with fantastically clear cut, leafy black berry and blackcurrant aromas, fabulous sweetness on the palate, but also lift and elegance. “I think this could be one of the best we’ve ever made” Paul Symington told us. “on a par with the ’63, ’70 and ‘94”. Seriously deep and resonant, with palate staining richness that moves from blackcurrant to plum, then to chocolate and cherry on an exceptionally long finish.

Graham's The Stone Terraces Vintage Port is produced from two low-yielding vineyards of just under 3 hectares laid out on magnificent stone terraces at Quinta dos Malvedos. Graham's Port

20 year old Tawny Port, Douro
Includes Graham's Gift Tube

***92 Points critics' Score, Aggregated***

Graham's 20 Years Old represents superlative quality. Its principal attributes are great complexity and harmony.
With an amber, golden tawny colour, denoting considerable age, Graham's 20 Years Old has an excellent bouquet, with a characteristic 'nutty' character (almonds) and delicious mature fruit with hints of orange peel, exquisitely mellowed by careful ageing. Rich, sweet and smooth on the palate, it is perfectly balanced, with a long and lingering finish. This is an excellent alternative to Vintage Port at less formal occasions and will keep for some weeks after opening.
