Graham's Port

graham-vintage-portGraham’s, one of the most outstanding producers of vintage port, owns five separate mountainous vineyards, located in different parts of the Douro region – each with the maximum ‘A’ grade classification. They have left as much of the original wild plant life undisturbed as possible, preserving biodiversity to contribute to unique and powerfully expressive wines reflective of the terroir. Graham's wines are renowned for remarkable richness, concentration and firm tannic structure which combine to give brilliant longevity. The House style is known by its intense floral notes, opulent berry fruit flavours and flair.

The story of Graham’s is that of two families, across three centuries. Founded in 1820 by two brothers, William and John Graham, the company was one of the first to invest in its own vineyards in the Douro Valley, and remains a pioneer innovating new techniques in winemaking to this day. Today, since their acquisition by Symington Family Estates, five Symington cousins share responsibility for the company. The Symington family has also been involved with Port for generations. Nearly a century after their ancestor AJ Symington left the employ of Graham’s to strike out on his own, the family came full circle to return to the company.

Graham’s only produce Vintage ports in the very best years, creating superb long-lived quality, but on undeclared years produce their famous Single Quinta ports from the Quinta dos Malvedos.

Single Harvest Tawny Port

This exceptional old Tawny Port brings together the finest crafts of Graham’s long winemaking tradition. It was made in one of the most celebrated years of the 20th century for Port – 1963. This 1963 Single Harvest Old Tawny Port has been aged in seasoned oak casks (barrels) for just over half a century and epitomizes Graham’s hallmark complexity, elegance and balance. Graham's Port, 1975

Vintage Port
Bin soiled label

*** 93 Points Aggregated Score***

The 1975 Graham's vintage port is a wine from an historic year for Portugal with a port declaration that came shortly after the 1974 revolution. With a lively bright appearance and deep aromatic nose of candied fruit, damson jam and sweet raisins, this port is a crowd pleaser. Elegant, with a long lingering finish it is nearly perfect now and will only keep improving.

Serving Suggestions:
When mature this port will need to be decanted to remove sediment. Serve at room temperature on its own or with vintage mature blue cheeses such as stilton Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Augur Blue.

Graham's Port, 1979

Late Bottled Vintage Port (Magnum format 150cl)

Late Bottled Vintage port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks (opposed to Vintage that ages 2-3). LBV fills the gap between the rubies and the vintage ports since a Ruby Port should be drunk quite young and a great Vintage Port may need 15 to 20 years to really open up and show its splendour. This led to the idea in the 1960s to age the wine 4 to 6 years in large casks before bottling it, thereby producing a wine with the style of a Vintage Port with its deep colour and concentration of fruit but with a more mature character caused by the longer ageing in wood.

Graham's Port, 1985

Vintage Port
***96 Points- RobertParker.com***
torn label- Bin soiled

An exceptional Port scoring 96/100 Parker Points

Graham is a great port house, producing one of the deepest-coloured and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. Graham is the undisputed star and kingpin of the 1985 vintage ports. It is made in a sweeter style than the other ports, but it is a fabulous wine because of a dazzling level of black-cherry fruit, an enormous structure, and staggering depth, dimension, and length.

Graham's Port, 1991

Vintage Port

*** 94 Points Robert Parker ***

"Graham's 1991 Vintage Port gets my nod as the port of the vintage. While keeping in mind that Graham's aims for a sweeter-styled port, there is no doubting the opaque purple/black colour, or the explosive nose of black fruits, licorice, spring flowers, and tar. Thick and full-bodied, with a satiny texture and a blockbuster, alcoholic finish, this is a top-notch vintage port." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 1995. Drink now to 2030+

Graham's Port, 2007

Vintage Port, Douro
Half Bottle
***97 Points Wine Advocate***

***97 Points Wine Advocate***
Reviews: "A candidate for wine of the vintage, the 2007 Graham’s Vintage Port is complete in every way. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up an ethereal perfume of smoke, mineral, Asian spices, incense, an amalgam of ripe black fruits, and a hint of chocolate in the background. This leads to a dense, super-rich, plush, opulent wine that hides its structure under all the fruit. Vibrant, impeccably balanced, and exceptionally lengthy, it will easily age for another 25-30 years in the cellar and drink well through 2050, probably longer. It is a tour de force." Graham's Port, 2010

Quinta dos Malvedos, Vintage Port, Douro

Deep, dark red colour with just a hint of fading along the edge. Gorgeous black cherry and plum aromas, with a wonderful fresh fruit fragrance and distinct notes of eucalyptus and hints of mint and liquorice. Luscious and opulent flavours coat the palate with full, rich blackberry fruit, intense and compact. A supple, muscular wine very pleasurable to drink now but with ample further ageing potential.
