Niepoort Port

niepoort-vintage-port Niepoort’s mission is to preserve the niche player position and continue to create great Port and Douro wines bringing together secular tradition and innovation.
The company has passed through five generations of family ownership and Dirk Niepoort now runs the firm. He has a dedication. passion and enthusiasm that has made him one of the most popular figures in the wine trade. He has always been innovative, pushing the boundaries both in winemaking and design concepts to achieve a unique style.
Niepoort was formerly more well-known for its Colheita wines, the vintage tawny Ports that are not often exported. Niepoort Vintage Port has a style that can be appreciated when very young, though as it matures, the wine soon closes up and becomes as long-lived as any. Production is tiny compared to other producers so the ports are rarities.

Niepoort Port, 1935

Colheita Port
Description: Reviews
1935 Niepoort Colheita Port – (bottled ,,,) – exceptionally perfumed nose, on the palate this is tremendous, the balance is perfection, round mouth-feel, incredibly long…even longer than the 1937! Nice high acid keeps this so fresh. Absolutely gorgeous wine with a delicious toasted pecan finish. The wine lacks nothing…it does not get better than this. Perfection! After we tasted this, Dirk told us it is his favourite Niepoort wine, and only a handful of bottles of this remain at the winery. 100 points - Roy Hersh = FortheLoveofPort.com

Vintage Port
Description: A rare example of the Niepoort 1945 Vintage.

Rated 97 points from the Wine Spectator (in 1990)… 'Another Port shipper once mistook this extraordinary wine for one 15 years younger. It is very youthful, with caressing sweet fruit flavors. Medium garnet with a ruby center, blackberry, black pepper and smoke aromas, medium-bodied, with sweet blackberry.'

Voted as the best of the Niepoort vintages by thePortForum.com - Review: 60% opaque, red. Wonderful mature VP, still with structure. Mint and cherry, though fruit fading. Fabulous. Widely acclaimed, and overwhelmingly voted, wine of the ni

Niepoort Port, 1968

Niepoort Port, 1968

Colheita Port
Description: 20%ABV 75cl
Bottled 1983

1968 was a good year in the vineyard, however the very heavy rain that fell just prior to the harvest marked the year ; having said this, many Houses declared Colheitas including Niepoort. Perhaps this is where the secret of small, old, well seasoned oak casks come into their own and the Colheita gains concentration over many years of slow oxidative ageing in the cool cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Tasting Notes: Superb brick red, green on therim. Wonderfully dry citrous fruit hints, smoky flavours and orange peel in the nose. Impressive bottle, tight and concise.

Niepoort Port, 1999

Secundum Vintage Port
Description: Niepoort 1999 Secundum Vintage Port is a style of Vintage Port developed by Dirk Niepoort to provide an approachable Vintage Port that offers immediate satisfaction yet is well-balanced enough to age for decades.

The 1999 Vintage gave rise to some very well structured Ports with almost ideal ripeness. It has not been a "fully declared" year but small parcels of top quality Vintage Port have been bottled by most shippers.

Secundum 99 is one of these combining power and the finesse. The fruit is seductive and the flavours inticing with a firm, but fine, structure. Could be enjoyed in 10 –12 years time but will also keep well beyond 2020.

Niepoort Port, 2000

Colheita Port
Description: This special Colheita bottling comes from Niepoort, one of the most respected names in port. Founded in 1842 by Dutchman Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, the firm is run today by his fifth-generation descendant, the dynamic Eduard Dirk Niepoort.

Colheita ports are a type of tawny port, meaning that the wines are generally aged in wood long enough that their flavors become nutty and delicate and the wine takes on a lighter, tawny hue.

Colheitas are from a single harvest year, in this case, from 2000. After fourteen years of slow aging, Niepoort’s 2000 Colheita displays all of the gorgeous aromatics and mellow flavors that make port such a seductive wine.

Niepoort Port, 2005

Colheita Port -(Comes in Niepoort carton gift box as illustrated)
Description: The small port shipping house of Niepoort has been handcrafting outstanding ports since 1842. Dirk Niepoort is currently the fifth generation of the family to personally oversee every wine which leaves the famous lodge in Vila de Gaia. Their extraordinary reputation is founded on a commitment to ancient vineyards, still treading most of their grapes in old granite ‘lagares' and bottling without filtration. As such, they remain regarded by many as the guardians of authentic port production.

Colheita ports are the products of a single year – in
this case 2005 - but are aged far longer in traditional casks.

Niepoort Port, 1912

Niepoort Port, 1912

Colheita Port
Description: Reviews
"This brings back a fond memory of a long lost friend, Paul Napolitano from NY. He once opened this identical Port for me years ago at his home and at the time, it was the finest Colheita I had experienced, as well as the oldest. This one was bottled in 1976 or 1977. A piece is torn off the label and makes it impossible to be certain. Dark coffee color with a greenish edge. Is this Madeira? A nose of bouillon cube, scents of sea breeze and toffee, reminiscent of a Malvasia and the richness and supple spine live up to that mindset. The palate is packed with copious caramel and fig flavors along with prunes and toffee intricately woven into a neat little package.

Niepoort Port, 1934

Colhieta Port 1934 Vintage
Description: 99 Points Robert parker

Reviews
"The 1934 is an example of a wine in bottle a long, long time—fortunately
Niepoort’s Colheitas do have normal, long corks. If this handsome beast is this
dense, concentrated and powerful now, I can barely imagine what it must have
been like when it was bottled. My mouth waters to think of it. Remember, too,
that this had less than 50 years in cask. What would a version bottled today be
like? Besides the notable concentration and viscosity, it has powerful acidity to
cut through its palate and make it seem bright and vibrant as well, with some
brandy in the background.

Niepoort Port, 1977

Vintage Port
Description: From the outstanding 1977 vintage. The excellent Niepoort is one of the smallest producers of port. Their ports are sought after by collectors and port lovers.

Reviews:
"Light, bright red color. Perfume of candied red fruits and roses. Tasted of red fruits, roses and violets. More roses and violets. Some citrus peel as well, but muted. Silky, seductive and elegant. Alcohol well integrated. This was a truly amazing and luscious port, even if not what I expected. More fruit and flowers than most ports are, but just beautiful. Glad I still have one more bottle."
