Fonseca 40 Year Aged Tawny Port, 1977

Fonseca 40 Year Aged Tawny Port - (Comes in original Fonseca Box with 2 Tasting Glasses as illustrated)

Description and Reviews:
Tawny Ports of this age, the oldest designation allowed, are true rarities.

This sublime port of great age and rarity has been aged in casks for an average age of 40 years. The port shows the old olive-gold hue of its many years in cask. Decades of evaporation have concentrated the wine to an exceptional density. Impressions of clove, nutmeg and an intense nuttiness converge both on the bouquet and palate. The wine's lush, almost viscous texture culminates in a finish of incredible length.

Peter Symington recommends, “Aged Tawny Ports are not designed to age in bottle and therefore should not be kept in a cellar for further ageing. As they have always lived in an oxygenated atmosphere they do not deteriorate quickly when opened and can be kept for a month or so after being opened.”
