Taylor's Port, 2011

Vintage Port (Half Bottle)

Description and Reviews:
The 2011 Taylor's Vintage Port Wine is made only in exceptional years, following the rigorous selection and tasting process to meet the requirements for declaration. Historically Taylor's has only declared a maximum of 3 vintages per decade. 2011 has been hailed as a classic vintage by all accounts. Ideal ripening conditions in this year have led Fladgate wine-maker David Guimaraens to conclude that the 2011's 'stand out for the purity of the fruit and the quality of the tannins, which are silky and well integrated but provide plenty of structure. The 2011 vintage is textbook Taylor's in its structured aromatics and elegance (according to Fladgate Managing Director Adrian Bridge). The heights of concentration and tannin achieved in this year will ensure even greater ageing potential.

This wine was placed immediately after the super-opulent Fonseca in the BFT tasting which may have been a mistake. This is restrained, well mannered, discreet, keeps its powder very dry. But on the palate it opens out in the most superb, burgundian peacock's tail sort of way. Another wonderful wine from The Fladgate Partnership. Utterly different from the Fonseca. Upright and straight backed. But irreproachable. My gums are virtually impervious to sugar and acid but this wine set them vibrating a bit. Dried prunes ground up with rocks. jancisrobinson.com
