1935 Vintage Port Vintage Report

Declared as a vintage by many houses and shipped with the 1934's the 1935s are classic refined wines, sweet and rich with fruit and tannins. Despite a difficult season with a drought that wasn’t broken until September by “a little rain,” harvest began 23 September and continued in perfect conditions. Andrew James Symington’s notes, dated 14 October 1935 state: I am inclined to think that the quality and good colour inspires hopes that the 1935 may prove good enough to make a Jubilee Vintage – quantity is less than last year – but quality appears to be better. These wines are now mature, but if well-cellared the best still have a good life ahead of them, as they are still showing good fruit and tannin integration with lovely balance and elegance.

Cockburn Port, 1935

Cockburn Port, 1935

Vintage Port
Description: 92 points from the Wine Spectator… 'Superlative finesse in a bottle. Light red, with a claret-like black currant nose, medium-bodied, with superbly balanced plum and cherry flavors, medium soft tannins and a long finish. It is truly wonderful now. One of Cockburn's greatest wines. (Feb-90)' 95 points from the Wine News... 'Intense purple/black hue; holding very well. Lively, forward bouquet of black cherry, dates and a wisp of mint. Loaded with opulent fruit that replicates the nose; ribbons of flavor resonate across the palate with a defined sweetness that coats the finish. A classic vintage port that was heralded when bottled; it hasn’t lost a degree of its intensity.

Niepoort Port, 1935

Niepoort Port, 1935

Colheita Port
Description: Reviews
1935 Niepoort Colheita Port – (bottled ,,,) – exceptionally perfumed nose, on the palate this is tremendous, the balance is perfection, round mouth-feel, incredibly long…even longer than the 1937! Nice high acid keeps this so fresh. Absolutely gorgeous wine with a delicious toasted pecan finish. The wine lacks nothing…it does not get better than this. Perfection! After we tasted this, Dirk told us it is his favourite Niepoort wine, and only a handful of bottles of this remain at the winery. 100 points - Roy Hersh = FortheLoveofPort.com
