2009 Vintage Port Vintage Report

The 2009 Port was declared as a vintage by the Taylor Fladgate Partnership covering Taylor, Fonseca and Croft. It will be remembered as a year of low yields which produced wines of massive density and scale. This was partly the result of a small amount of fruit produced across all grape varieties and also the very dry summer during which there was no rainfall from July through to harvest time in September.

Skeffington Vintage Port, 2009

Skeffington Vintage Port, 2009

Vintage Port
Description:
** 89 points - Neil Martin **

Possibly the bargain of the vintage. Restrained on the nose, intensely perfumed and dominated by Gala melons. Smooth, medium-bodied entry initially with modest levels of fruit. Patience and air allows the fruit to blossom and the tannins to show. The fruit grows to surprising levels - an intriguing and intense mix of raspberries and blackcurrants. Curry powder tingles on the aftertaste before giving way to a long and powerful finish of blackberries.

Reviews
Jancis Robinson:"Very deep purple with a notably `warm` nose reminiscent of raisins. Notably high volatile acidity and masses of smudgy, pruney, sweet fruit.

Taylor's Port, 2009

Taylor's Port, 2009

Vintage Port SINGLE 75cl bottle
Description: 95 Points - Wine Journal

Reviews:Going back and forth, the Taylor's 2009 has a lighter nose than the 2007 with precise dark cherry, Seville orange, fresh fig and a hint of scorched soil. The palate is full-bodied packed with ripe black cherries, fresh fig and white pepper; very harmonious and focused although I feel that the 2007 has a little more depth and persistency. Very pretty and very pure, this Taylor's may well put on weight with a couple of years in bottle and merit a higher mark. Tasted May 2011.

Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Vehla SINGLE BOTTLE 75cl

Strict selection has led to a wine of stunning complexity, power and richness. This is one that will be at its peak 50 years hence. The palate is gloriously sweet and dense, with huge potential for the long term.

Reviews: "The Taylor Vargellas Vinha Velha 2009 has a more introverted than Taylor’s Vintage, an earthy bouquet with touches of orange essence developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good backbone, quite reserved and composed at the moment.
