Reviews for 1966 Warre's Vintage Port

91 points Wine Spectator
There is still plenty of fresh, youthful fruit here. Medium ruby-red, with an intense floral and berry nose, medium-bodied, with rich, sweet fruit flavors, medium tannins and a lingering finish. Very good fruit. (JS, Web Only—1998)

Jancis Robinson
Deep, vibrant ruby with very pale rim. Big, broad, rich nose – quite burly and autumnal. More powerful than the 1963 – with more obvious alcohol.

VWP Port buyers recommendation: Dr Tony Carter, port buyer for VWP recommends this as the best colheita/single harvest port. "This port from the world's oldest port house has a lively amber colour. Aroma of great impact, with dried fruits, mocha, orange peel and liqueur. Wonderful balance and a superb finish.".

The hand stenciled Kopke Port bottles express the traditional artisan quality and nostalgic appeal long associated with the enjoyment of the finest ports.

Fonseca Port, 1965

Guimaraens Single Quinta Port

Deep red, the colour of black cherry juice; 70% opaque. Dusty apples on the nose, with some spicy tobasco. Sweet in the mouth, red jelly beans but little fruit. The jelly beans come through strongly on the mid-palate. A hot aftertaste with lots of ginger that lasts a long time before dark cherry skins and black chocolate make up the finish. This is a nice port.

Graham's Port, 1965

Malvedos Vintage Port

Wonderful on the nose, full of rich spices and sweet cranberries - really very attractive. Gentle golden sultana fruit on the palate, very mature flavour profile but with plenty of dried fruits and delicious complex spices. Fragrant aftertaste with just touch of spirit before a nutty and delicious long finish that turns into icing sugar flavours. Drinking very nicely at the moment. Reviewed by Alex Bridgeman 2015, TPF.

Krohn Port, 1965

Vintage Port
Includes Wooden Presentation Case

Tasting note: Tawny brown of medium intensity and a narrow amber rim. The nose of this wine is sumptuous in its richness and complexity. The undercurrent of creamy butterscotch aroma is overlaid with notes of vanilla and raisin, a discreet fragrance of violets and pungent resiny scents of garigue. The palate is round and velvety, finishing with a surge of rich caramel flavour. A seductive Vintage Port, one of the best examples from this year.

Messias, 1965

Colheita Port, Douro

Only bottled in 2015, this 1965 Colheita port from Messias has a tawny colour. Fruity and fresh, with a bouquet that brings out the aromas of dried fruits, roasted nuts, wood and spices due to the prolonged time this wine has spent in cask and due to the gradual oxidation which created a soft and harmonious port full of complex flavour characteristics. The finish is long and satisfying.

Colheita Port Storage and Serving Advice:
Colheita Port should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position.

Messias, 1965

Quinta Do Cachao Vintage Port

A very rare bottle of Vintage Port from the good 1965 Vintage - these are the only bottles available in the UK and are a true rarity. Unlike the colheita ports from the same year, this wine has aged in the bottle for nearly 50 years (As opposed to a barrel). It is among the rarest category of ports and is a delight for the port connoisseur.

The 1965 Vintage has a medium intensity - amber with a hint of orange. On the nose the wine is clean, med to pronounced intensity, dried fruits, caramel - grenadine, grilled nuts (hazelnut / almond). Sweet, med+ acidity that keeps it fresh and well balanced, full body, pronounced intensity, and superb length.

Messias, 1965

Colheita Port, Douro
Bottled in 1978

Tawny colour with a little haziness to be expected in older colheita ports. Aromas of dried fruits, roasted nuts, wood and spices due to the prolonged time this wine has spent in cask and due to the gradual oxidation which created a soft and harmonious port full of complex flavour characteristics. The finish is long and satisfying.

Colheita Port Storage and Serving Advice:
Colheita Port should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position. If stored correctly, Colheita Ports will keep for decades in the bottle.

Quinta do Noval Nacional, 1964

Quinta do Noval Nacional- Vintage Port
Mid Shoulder Level

1964 Quinta do Noval Nacional is undoubtedly one of the most legendary fortified wines in the world. It is produced from a small area at the heart of the Quinta do Noval vineyard planted with ungrafted vines that have remained untouched by Phylloxera

"Palish red-brown. Currant, fresh herbs, coffee and mellow wood tones on the slightly shallow, evolved nose. Offers an attractive mid-palate sweetness but comes across as quite light, finishing with slightly drying tannins and a sugary, caramel-like quality. Faded with air. "This has been on a plateau for the last 20 years," noted Seely. I'd drink it over the next ten years.

Cockburn Port, 1963

Vintage Port
Excellent Levels | Good Provenance
REMAINS OF LABEL

Reviews:
"Perfectly integrated and showing cherry, raspberry, baker's spices and hints of fig on the nose and palate. With air the fruit became more plummy in character and picked up more complex dried fruit notes. It's sweet, but not Graham's or Fonseca sweet and there's actually some nice acidity to the wine that keeps it fresh. Seamless with the alcohol sewn into the fabric of the wine nicely." Cellar Tracker 2012

'Bright ruby red. Full rich red chocolately spicy aroma. Ripe rich round slightly hot fruit on the palate'. Cellar Tracker tasted 2005.
Rating 94/100 (CT)

Vintage Port
***96 Parker Points***

Excellent Provenance

An outstanding 1963 Port scoring 96/100 Parker Points.

Reviews: "What a stunning 1963 vintage port this is! The bouquet draws you in, does not drag you in with its alcohol and reveals a fresh, well defined nose with a nutty edge, hints of cigar box and allspice. The palate is beautifully balanced, understated on the entry but building all the time, flashes of eucalyptus leading towards a more extrovert, clove tinged finish that hangs around the palate. Gorgeous Grahams! Tasted May 2009." Neil Martin, Wine Journal
