Harveys Port, 1954

Vintage Port
Unlabelled with embossed capsules

The 1954 Harveys' Vintage port is actually believed to be 1954 Grahams Malvedos. Grahams have indicated that the 1954 Malvedos Vintage was supplied exclusively to Harveys of Bristol in this year who bottled it under their own brand.

Review.
The 1954 still has a deep red colour and density. On the nose there is complex, lovely bouquet of spice, baked cherry, toffee and perhaps a hint of strawberry. Great mouth-feel with weight and density. Great balance between alcohol, tannin, acidity, touch of toffee. A beautiful wine with an ever-lasting finish. 96/100. Outstanding TC VWP tasting. Mar 20.

Burmester, 1952

Colheita Port, Douro
Presented in Gift Tube
***95 Points - Robert Parker***

We are delighted to offer a UK exclusive on Burmester Colheita Ports.

Reviews:
"(2015) Lovely dark caramel colour, with some truffle and tea notes, edges of olive and green fruits (fig). The maturity on the palate is obvious, again with fabulous sweetness and brown sugar richness, Muscovado and walnuts, but the hallmark of the fresh orange and lemon acidity plays against that and the coffee and walnut cake sweetness and richness." Cockburn Port, 1950

Vintage Port
Very faded labels

Reviews

"Surprisingly good depth of colour: mid-deep centre with a thin browning rim; lovely, pure scented, floral aromas, esteva (gum cistus) still fresh and fragrant; gentle, sweet fruit, still lithe, creamy milk chocolate intensity, long and fine with peppery length. Lovely balance and one of the best 1950s that I have tasted. Wyndham Fletcher (ex-Cockburn’s) described this as a ‘useful rather than a great year’. " Richard Mayson, 2012 Richard.mayson.com

Sandeman, 1950

Vintage Port
Embossed capsule | Plain label

Color: Dark tawny with some red left.
Nose: Sweet Christmas spices. Rich, round sugar. Turpentine.
Palate: Some tannins, edgy. On the dry side for Port (which is typical to me for Sandeman). Decent fruit.
Finish: Medium length. Finish seems younger than the Port's age.

Fonseca Port, 1948

Vintage Port
Clearance Offer | Mid Shoulder | Was £1650 | Now £550

1948 Fonseca Vintage Port – James Suckling had bestowed 100 points on this VP. Tawny-centered colour with a light yellowish edge, with surprisingly light colour overall, not what I am used to. In contrast to the massive masculine style of the Taylor, this showed the smooth elegance and feminine style of a great well-aged vintage Port. It exhibits cherry and sweet cranberry fruit, along with an incredibly complex and everlasting finish.

Taylor's Port, 1948

Vintage Port
Level in Neck
100 points - Neil Martin Vinous

From the very good 1948 vintage, this very rare Taylors vintage port is one of the finest ports ever made

There is Vintage Port and then there is the 1948 Taylor Fladgate. It remains a monumental Port that towers over the 20th century. Nineteen forty-eight is perhaps one of the lesser-known declarations compared to 1945 and 1963, although nine houses declared that year. Michael Broadbent described that as an “error of judgment” given the quality of the vintage in retrospect. I have been fortunate to taste the 1948 Taylors on several occasions, encountering one or two perfect bottles along the way.
