Grahams Port

graham-vintage-port
Graham’s are one of the most outstanding producers of vintage port. Their wines are renowned for their remarkable, richness, concentration and firm tannic strucure which combines to give them remarkable longevity. production is centred on the Malvedos vineyard, one of the most famous within the Duro region. Grapes from Malvedos are responsible for providing the famous house style: intense floral notes, opulent berry fruit flavours and racy flair. The Malvedos vineyard also lends its name to the famous single quinta produced in years when there is no declaration.

Graham's have a history spanning three centuries, dating back to 1820 when two brothers, William and John Graham, established the business in Oporto. Today, Graham’s is owned by the famous Symington family, who continue to produce some of Portugal’s finest wines.

Their Vintage ports are only produced in the best years, and these ports are always superb quality and long-lived.

Grahams Port Bond (Case Of 6x75cl Bottles)
Offer Price includes certificate, duty and tax
Discount codes cannot be used with this offer.

Vintage Port is the traditional gift for marking special family occasions, particularly the birth of a child. Vintage Port has an extraordinary ability to age gracefully for 75 years or more, developing from a structured, powerful and robust young wine into a sophisticated and elegant wine in middle age and then on to a delicate and ethereal beauty that will continue for decades.

Given that Port is usually not released until the second spring after a particular vintage is harvested, it was previously difficult to buy a case of Port as a commemorative gift as it would have to be done retrospectively.

Grahams Port Bond (Single Bottle 1x75cl)
Offer Price includes certificate, duty and tax
Discount codes cannot be used with this offer.

It has long been a tradition for special occasions to be marked by the laying down of vintage port from the year of the event. Problematically, due to the fact that a vintage year is normally only declared in the second year after the harvest, the recipient of the gift often has to remain empty handed until sometime after the celebration.

Graham's are the first port company to overcome this problem, providing a vintage port bond that is available for purchase in the year of harvest. The port bond scheme guarantees that a certain quantity of the wine produced each year will be reserved for the bond holder.

THE STONE TERRACES, Vintage Port
Single bottle presented in a wooden box

The Symington family is pleased to announce a limited release of 400 cases of Vintage Port from its Stone Terraces vineyards, which occupy just 2.9 hectares of its iconic Quinta dos Malvedos, of which the total area under vine is 90 hectares. Acquired in 1890, this property is acknowledged to be in one of the Upper Douro Valley’s most favourable sites. It has been the source of some of the greatest Vintage Ports ever made.
The Stone Terraces vineyard at Quinta dos Malvedos produced an extraordinary wine in 2015. The grapes were picked by hand over the weekend of the 12th/13th of September, a couple of days before substantial rain fell across the Douro Valley, and were subsequently fermented in lagares at the estate’s own small winery.

Grahams Port, 2013

Late Bottled Vintage Port in Gift Tubes

The 2013 Graham´s Late Bottled Vintage Port (LBV) is a superb wine, selected from the finest production of a very good year. Whereas vintage Port spends two years in casks and then matures in bottle, LBV is matured in seasoned oak and then bottled at between four and six years of age; hence the term, ‘Late Bottled’. Its ageing process encourages the wine’s development; at the time of bottling it is therefore ready for drinking without the need for decanting.

Graham´s LBV represents centuries of experience and craftsmanship and is a reflection of the people who contribute to the making of the wine in the vineyard, the cellars, the cooperage and the tasting room, as well as the Graham´s Lodge where it ages since shortly after the harvest.

Aromas of violets just fly out the glass! Endless layers of very ripe blackberry fruit coat the palate. Great depth of structure with sweet liquorice flavour. combining with rich tannins, give this wine an outstanding complexity.

"Dark chocolate. More masculine in style here. Smooth, great appeal. Seamless. Spice-laden, grippy structure. This is superb. Approachable and seductive, and a bit of a crowd-pleaser at present. Should be brilliant with time, and another contender for wine of the vintage. 19+/20" The Wine Doctor.

Grahams Port, 1994

Vintage Port

96 Points (parker)

Reviews: "In a port tasting, tasting Graham's is almost like tasting a big, rich, succulent Merlot after a group of blockbuster, tannic Cabernets. Sweeter and more obvious than many ports, the opaque purple-colored 1994 is fruity, powerful, and rich, with an addictive hedonistic quality. It will be ready to drink in 8-10 years and keep for up to 30. As always, this is a showy, flamboyant port that has the advantage of being slightly sweeter than other 1994s. A great Graham's. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2035." Parker Wine Advocate 1996

Grahams Port, 1991

Vintage Port

*** 94 Points Robert Parker ***

"Graham's 1991 Vintage Port gets my nod as the port of the vintage. While keeping in mind that Graham's aims for a sweeter-styled port, there is no doubting the opaque purple/black colour, or the explosive nose of black fruits, licorice, spring flowers, and tar. Thick and full-bodied, with a satiny texture and a blockbuster, alcoholic finish, this is a top-notch vintage port." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 1995. Drink now to 2030+

Grahams Port, 1983

Vintage Port

An outstanding fully mature port rating 92 points.

Reviews: Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. The 1983, like most vintage ports, seems more forward than normal but has a great depth of very ripe, viscous, unctuous, plummy, tarry fruit and significant tannin in its long finish. It is black-purple in color. This is is certainly one of the top two or three ports of this vintage, and better than the excellent 1980.

Grahams Port, 1980

Vintage Port

Purple fading to red and finally pink at the rim. Rich blackberries on the nose along with very faint stewed strawberries. The tannins were powerful on Christmas day but mellowed some by the next evening. The blackberries carried through as a prominent flavor, but added a sourish note almost like a sour cherry. The finish starts out with a rich butter cookie note, but then quickly switches to grape stem.

Grahams Port, 1977

The 1977 Graham's vintage port is a stunning example of a fully declared vintage. Intense candied fruit aromas intermingle with cinnamon and clove spice leading to a palate of sweet jammy figs and milk chocolate notes. A fine port with long lingering finish that is ready for drinking now but, obviously as with all great ports, has many years ahead of it.

Grahams Port, 1975

Vintage Port

*** 93 Points Aggregated Score***

The 1975 Graham's vintage port is a wine from an historic year for Portugal with a port declaration that came shortly after the 1974 revolution. With a lively bright appearance and deep aromatic nose of candied fruit, damson jam and sweet raisins, this port is a crowd pleaser. Elegant, with a long lingering finish it is nearly perfect now and will only keep improving.

Serving Suggestions:
When mature this port will need to be decanted to remove sediment. Serve at room temperature on its own or with vintage mature blue cheeses such as stilton Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Augur Blue.
