Taylor's Port

taylors-vintage-portTaylor's Port has a three hundred year tradition focusing solely on its port wines, finding the very best methods of production and refining them to produce some of the best examples in existence.

Taylor's three iconic port wine estates, located in the best parts of the Douro Valley - Terra Feita, Vargellas and Junco - encompass a huge area and various different styles of wine. Each estate is distinct from the others, with different strengths and styles to complement each other brilliantly. It’s partly because of this that the House is rated so highly, often known as the one to beat when it comes to vintage ports; with their iconic blends of the very best from each estate, a bottle of Taylor’s vintage port is always unique and invariably among the best available. It is for this reason that theirs are some of the most sought-after and expensive ports in the world.

Taylor’s is undeniably one of the highest quality producers of port available and has centuries of experience with which to back that up – remaining the benchmark for many vintages, any bottle of theirs is sure to go down well!

Taylor's Port, 1975

Vintage Port
Unlabelled - see conditions report

The 1975 vintage is massively underrated, languishing in the shadows of the great 1970 and 1977 vintages. The Ports produced are lighter in style than other declarations but represent tremendous value. The Taylor's 1975 Vintage Port is no exception. Our tastings over the past few years have shown this wine consitently has a good colour in the glass and a mature nose. It has good structure and backbone that is typical of Taylors. It is a touch spirity, with some gentle, stony, red fruits. On the palate there is an immediately apparent sweetness which persists through to the finish.

Reviews "This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal.

Taylor's Port, 1974

Crusted Port - Bottled in 1974

Crusted Port is a very small category, named because of the 'crust' of sediment that it forms in the bottle.
Invented by the British-owned Port houses predominantly for the British Port drinker, it is intended to be a more economical alternative to Vintage or Late Bottled Vintage.

Crusted is a blend of several harvests, which are bottled without being filtered and laid down to mature like Vintage wines. Using this approach allows the manufacturer to use some of the lesser harvests but still produce a good rich full bodied wine at an economical price.

Usually a year is stated on the label which, because the wine was made from a blend of harvests, is the year in which the wine was bottled.

Taylor's Port, 1970

Vintage Port
Excellent Levels

The 1970 Taylor's Vintage Port is a consistently high performer and rated as one of the best of the 1970 ports.

99 points Wine Enthusiast
This wine's dark garnet color with minimal bricking suggests a relatively youthful wine and this certainly could age longer, although it's also delicious now. Wonderfully complex floral and herbal scents easily move into deep, rich flavors of chocolate and cherries, sprinkled with a healthy dose of Douro minerality and spice. Drink or hold. (JC) (2/2007)

98 points Vinous
The 1970 Taylor's Vintage Port has a tight nose, youthful with notes of liquorice, raisin, boot-polish and lemongrass.

Taylor's Port, 1963

Vintage Port- MAGNUM
Excellent Provenance

Ruby highlights surviving in the colour. Deep, intense, Burgundian richness. At first the spirit is rather overpowering. Then dark chocolate starts appearing, followed by herbal, gum cistus, licorice, cigar box, leathery quality really comes through in the mouth and a slightly medicinal character. Medium length.

This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades.
