D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1997

Tinta Negra (dry style)

Description and Reviews:
The founders of D’Oliveiras were visionaries that saw the true value of Madeira Wine: its ability to improve over time. D’Oliveiras is the only Madeira Wine company that owns Madeira Wine bottles and barrels from as far as the 1850’s that can still be commercially purchased. Bottled and painted by hand, this 1997 has been aged for 22 years in old French oak barrels in the 17th century wine lodge in the heart of old Funchal.

This unusual 1997 Tinta Negra Madeira was vinified in a dry style, revealing a fine and precise aroma, tempered by the strong presence of dried fruits and lightened and spiced by generous volatile acidity. A long, intense, tangy finish. A very rare wine.

Serving suggestions and food pairing: Excellent for serving as an aperitif. Goes well with light soups and consommés, ham, smoked game, mushrooms, pâtés, almonds and walnuts. Serve at 14°-186°C.

Storage: Madeira wines are indestructible and have the fascinating ability to remain in excellent condition for centuries. Keep your bottle of Madeira wine upright, away from direct sunlight, and it will last forever. Once opened, a bottle of Madeira wine will remain in perfect condition for months, if not years. So, don't hurry to finish the bottle. That is, if you can resist..
