La Rosa's classic house style achieved by slow maceration in traditional granite 'Lagares' has produced a wine full of luscious forward fruit with a very attractive nose and a long velvety slightly drier finish across the palate

La Rosa is a vertically integrated Quinta rising to 450 metres above sea level, boasting many hidden micro climates within its cirtilage. Where possible we vintage and mature these small 'lotes' separately in order to achieve the maximum complexity in the finished ports, which would not have been possible from a less diversely planted property.

Tasting Notes Opaque colour. Very rich, dark chocolate aromas with some black cherry and mature fruit coming through. There is also a pleasing freshness to the port originating from its floral and cistus bouquet.

Quinta de la Rosa, 2009

Colheita Single Harvest Port

This Colheita is rather unusual – at one level there is plenty of young, mature fruit (black plums) and at the other, there are a more tertiary, complex flavours associated with dry fruits and spice. On tasting, at the beginning, the wine is vigorous and full of flavour getting more complex on the palate and ending with a mixture of fresh fruit, nuts, dried apricot and spice. The finish is very elegant and long. This Colheita successfully marries two worlds – the energy and opulence of fruit from Ruby ports and the elegance and complexity of Tawnies.

Quinta de la Rosa, 1995

Vintage Port

1995 followed a very cold and wet previous year and consequently with more equable temperatures the vines had the opportunity to recover their strength and produce well matured and even sugar levels this year of between 13º and 14º Beaumé.

Weather patterns at the Quinta during 1995 gave a mild winter and spring. Bunches , when formed, matured evenly and when the Quinta started vintaging on September 11th we were as usual careful to choose the most forward vineyards for immediate picking to ensure the highest sugar content. This attention to detail has paid off.

La Rosa is a vertically integrated Quinta rising to 450 metres above sea level, boasting many hidden micro climates within its cirtilage.

Quinta de la Rosa, 1994

Vintage Port

1994 was a great vintage for Port, with a slow and long ripening period to add a great deal of complexity to the wine. This example of vintage Port, from Qunita de la Rosa, is a wine of concentration and complexity but with great restraint as one can always expect from la Rosa. The wine is now entering its drinking "window" and will give great pleasure from now until 2030 at least.
The la Rosa 1994 Vintage Port is more delicate and subtle than say the muscular 1992, and though likely to last as long, will come forward for drinking sooner. It has intense colour and is a nicely elegant and complex wine which will cellar well.

Quinta de la Rosa, 1992

Vintage Port

93 pts Robert Parker

"The powerhouse 1992 Vintage Port exhibits a huge, highly extracted, chocolate and black-raspberry-scented nose, full body, unctuously-textured flavors, moderate tannin, and a chewy, long finish. It requires 7-8 years of cellaring as it is revealing more structure than other 1992s. It should keep for 25-30 years." Robert Parker Wine Advocate.

Quinta de la Rosa, 1991

Vintage Port

The colour has become lighter with the slow maturation, and this is now ready to drink. The fruit is plum and raspberry with a touch of spice - cloves and cinnamon The finish is long and gently warming.
