2000 Port Vintage Report

2000 Port: The 2000 Vintage was the first to be declared in the 21st century and will be remembered for the immense concentration of its wines and for the small quantities produced. The wines are already showing tremendous promise, with intense berry fruit aromas and full-bodied structure, which at this early stage is an excellent sign.

Dow's Port, 2000

Vintage Port

**94 Points** Robert Parker
Reviews
"An opaque blue/purple colour (typical of this vintage's top offerings) is followed by a strikingly provocative aromatic display (flowers, licorice, blackberries, and cassis). This firmly-structured, classic, tightly-knit, restrained port exhibits brilliant purity as well as impressive intensity. While not the most dramatic or flamboyant, it is a beautiful, classically structured port that will age gracefully. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2030." Robert Parker

Fonseca Port, 2000

Vintage Port

*** 95 Points Robert Parker ***
*** 95 Points Wine Journal ***

"Dense ruby/purple-colored, with an exotic, exuberant perfume of black fruits, flowers, incense, and licorice, this unctuously-textured, full-bodied port is one of the most concentrated of the vintage. Sweet, expansive, and succulent, this large-scaled, but remarkably well-balanced effort is surprisingly forward and accessible (by Fonseca's standards). Anticipated maturity: 2006-2025." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 2002.

"The millennial Fonseca is still a young pup. It has a rich blackberry, cassis and liquorice-scented nose with a touch of saddle-leather, fruitcake and earth.

Graham Port, 2000

Vintage Port

*** 98 Points (Wine Spectator)***- An outstanding port

Reviews: "Velvety intensity; remarkably sweet as always, floral scents, glorious flavour, richness masking tannin. Great wine."
Michael Broadbent , Vintage Wine., 2002

“Smells like fresh orchids, with loads of ripe, clean fruit. Full-bodied, medium-sweet. Very powerful and racy; lasts for minutes on the palate. Yet there’s balance and class to this young Vintage Port. Greatest Graham ever, young or old. Best after 2014”.
James Suckling , Wine Spectator, 2003.

Quevedo Port, 2000

Colheita Port

*** 93 Points Mark Squires - Wine Advocate ***

Reviews:
"The 2000 Colheita Port is a tawny bottled in 2013 with 103 grams per liter of residual sugar. It is a blend of Touriga Nacional (15%), Touriga Franca (35%), Tinta Roriz (20%), Tinto Cão (8%), Tinta Barroca (10%) and the famous "others" (12%), aged for five years in a balseiro of 14,000 liters and then six years in well used casks of 650 liters. This is a rather aggressive 2000, not showing a lot of caramel, complexity or lushness up front, but showing plenty of power. Oscar Quevedo said that he didn't make a Vintage Port in 2000--so most of what would have been that is here.
