Terms and Conditions
Vintage Port Shop is an independent retailer offering fine vintage Ports and fortified wines. If you have any questions about our wines or service please email us at customercare@vintageportshop.co.uk.
- All wines are offered to UK customers as duty paid including taxes where applicable.
- We never substitute products and will always deliver the exact bottle that you have ordered. If for some reason we are unable to supply the appropriate wine we will contact you to offer an alternative or a full refund.
Purchasing Wine
Simply browse our catalogue and place any items you wish to buy into the shopping cart. After you have finished your selection click on "Order" and you will be asked for a few details that we need to process your order.
Orders by telephone and payment by cheque are also available. We only accept orders if you are over 18 years of age. We operate a signed-for delivery service and our couriers are instructed to deliver purchases only to adults over 18. We cannot deliver to PO boxes.
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal.
Sale contract. This contract to purchase goods from Vintage Wine and Port Ltd is conditional on the product being shipped.
Condition of bottles. All our bottles are stored in ideal temperature and humidity controlled conditions. Some bottles due to their age may have labels that are wine stained, torn or faded. Wherever possible we indicate the condition in the condition report. If you are not happy with your purchase return it to us unopened within three months in the original condition for a full refund.
All descriptions of bottles on this website represent the opinions of Vintage Wine and Port Ltd and its employees. We accept no liability as to the nature of the content.
Shipping and Handling
Delivery costs are shown on the shopping basket page. If you have any special conditions please notify us in the delivery instructions box or contact us directly.
Please try to specify an address where the recipient will be present (office, neighbour etc) as our couriers are instructed to leave purchases only with a responsible adult.
Delivery prices include postage and standard packing. UK standard delivery is free for orders over £100. Orders can be delivered to most international countries (please contact us for delivery prices).
International delivery. We offer an international service to most countries and prices for delivery of 1-12 bottles are shown during checkout. For larger quantities we will contact you with a shipping quotation. Our shipping charges are for shipping only. The purchaser will be liable for any additional charges such as local import duties or taxes.
As the transaction relates to the sale of alcohol we operate a signed-for courier service. Our responsibility is to deliver your wine to a responsible adult at the delivery address.
Please ensure that the parcel is delivered to a manned address where someone will be available to sign for it. We will normally attempt delivery up to two times. If the parcel is returned to us we reserve the right to charge for return postage costs incurred by us.
In some circumstances you may request that wine is left in a secure location (for example a garage). However this is at your own risk and we cannot accept responsibility if the parcel is subsequently stolen or damaged.
Please note that we cannot offer next day delivery to Northern Ireland, Scottish Highlands and some islands including the Isle of Man. Couriers may charge a surcharge for these locations and if this applies we will contact you before dispatch. If you do not wish to proceed you may cancel your order and receive a full refund.
Delivery Schedule
Our courier's standard delivery window is Monday to Friday 08:00 – 18:00. Saturday delivery is available as a premium service. Couriers do not deliver on Sundays or bank holidays.
If a responsible adult is not available at the delivery address to receive the parcel a card will normally be left with contact details and one further delivery attempt will be made. If delivery is unsuccessful again an additional charge may be made.
Couriers will not deliver to anyone under 18 and proof of age may be required.
Stock Orders
We only offer wines that we physically hold in stock. Our stock list is live at all times.
Tax Charges
Where applicable VAT is charged on appropriate goods and services at the prevailing rate and our VAT number will appear on the invoice. Many wines are sold under the Global Margin Scheme and therefore no input tax has been reclaimed on those transactions.
Payment Security
All credit and debit card payments are processed securely through our payment provider using encrypted connections.
Vintage Port Shop does not store any credit or debit card details on our servers.
We also accept bank transfer (BACS / IBAN) payments by arrangement. Orders paid by bank transfer will only be dispatched once funds have cleared.
Guarantee
Unlike many wine merchants we guarantee our wines and Ports for three months after purchase. If you are unhappy with the product for any reason simply return it unopened in its original packaging within three months for a refund or replacement.
If a wine is spoiled upon opening within three months of shipping we will provide a replacement or credit against a future purchase.
Please notify us by email within two days of opening so that we have the opportunity to review the claim. We may require the bottle and contents to be returned to us.
Please note that we will not replace a wine if the cork is soft as this is common with older wines where the cork has been in contact with the wine for many years.
Older wines are naturally fragile and as we have no control over storage conditions after delivery we cannot guarantee wines beyond three months from purchase.
If the wine or presentation case has been damaged during transit please notify us within three days of receipt so that we can arrange its return and issue a replacement.
Some wines are excluded from our guarantee. These may include bin ends or wines of exceptional age and rarity with low ullage levels. These wines are clearly marked and sold as seen. As with all internet purchases you may return such wines unopened within seven days for a full refund.
