2007 Port Vintage Report

2007 was the first widely declared Port vintage since 2003; virtually every Port house that matters made a Vintage Port, attesting to the quality of the year. The growing season was preceded by a wet winter, which put plenty of moisture back into the soil after a lengthy period of dry conditions. Summer temperatures were relatively mild (unlike the torrid conditions in 2003, the last previous declared vintage). September and October weather was close to ideal so that the grapes enjoyed a lengthy hang-time under excellent conditions with full ripening of Turiga Francesa and Turiga Nacional, the two most important grape varieties. The quantities produced are small, so there is a high demand for them. There is little doubt that 2007 is a high class vintage, making a port from this year a great 12 year old wine gift for an anniversary this year.

Croft Port, 2007

Vintage Port MAGNUM

93/100 (Outstanding) Wine Journal

"There is a nice limpidity on this Croft 2007. It is not the power that strikes you but the purity with black cherries, liquorices, violets and a hint of iodine. Very tight and focused. The palate is full-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry, pure blackberry, raspberry, white pepper and Asian spice towards the finish. Very fine focus, very pure and harmonious. Sensuous finish but it just tapers away when I need more grip and assertiveness. Still, this is a lovely Croft." Neil Martin , Wine Journal

Dow's Port, 2007

Vintage Port

*** 100 Points Wine Spectator ***

This has a superb nose of rich, ripe berry fruit with the typical slightly austere and firm reserve of Dow. Analytically drier than usual, it is still blessed with dense fruit on the palate, a magnificent structure, weight and impressively long finish. On this showing, Dow is a strong candidate for wine of the vintage.

Wine Spectator Awards Perfect Score to World-Renowned Port Producer Dow's 2007 Vintage Port, from the Oporto, Portugal based producer, has been awarded a perfect 100-point score from Wine Spectator magazine in the May 31 issue. Taylor's Port, 2007

Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Vehla

The Vinha Vehla are five plots located in the heart of Quinta de Vargellas. The vines being between 80 and 120 years of age. Strict selection has led to a wine of stunning complexity, power and richness. This is one that will be at its peak 50 years hence. The palate is gloriously sweet and dense, with huge potential for the long term.

Reviews: "The Taylor Vargellas Vinha Velha 2007 has a more introverted than Taylor’s Vintage, an earthy bouquet with touches of orange essence developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good backbone, quite reserved and composed at the moment.

Warre's Port, 2007

Bottle Matured Late Bottled Vintage In Gift Box

The 2007 LBV from Warre's is still made in the traditional way - bottled unfiltered then aged for a number of years before being released only when it is ready. As a result, it is vastly superior to most other LBV Ports, and a brilliant value substitute for full Vintage Port.

The 2007 is full-bodied, rich and sweet; deep, dark fruit flavours; long, elegant finish.
Because it is unfiltered, this LBV should be decanted before serving to leave the sediment behind.

This prolonged bottle ageing is crucial to the development of the superb “nose” and flavour which lend this Port a style and complexity very much akin to that of Vintage Port.

On the palate it is voluminous with layered, succulent fruit, outstanding density, and excellent integration of tannin, acidity, and alcohol. The long finish and the wine’s impeccable balance suggest a lengthy evolution and a drinking window extending out to 2045. " Jay Miller, Wine Advocate.

"The nose is quintessential Fonseca, like a riotous party reaching its crescendo in the glass.
