Messias
Caves Messias is an iconic producer of Port Wine, renowned worldwide for its exceptional Vintage and Colheita Ports. Established in 1926 by Messias Baptista, the company has remained family-owned, with his descendants continuing the tradition of excellence and innovation. Messias Port is celebrated for its extensive collection of rare and sought-after vintages, making it a favorite among collectors and connoisseurs.
At the heart of Messias Port is its flagship estate, Quinta do Cachão, located in the rugged Cima Corgo subregion of the Douro Valley. Named after the Cachão de Valeira, a massive rock that once blocked river navigation, the estate's history is as rich as its wines. Vines were first planted in 1845, enduring challenges such as the Phylloxera epidemic, before the estate was acquired by the Messias family in 1956. The family later expanded with the purchase of Quinta do Rei in 1958, initiating significant renovations to elevate their winemaking legacy.
Today, Messias Port embodies a blend of tradition and modernity, producing ports that reflect the unique terroir of the Douro Valley. From its historic roots to its world-class reputation, Messias Port continues to set the standard for quality and authenticity in Port Wine.

Messias, 2004
Colheita Port
The Messias colheita port wine from the good 2004 vintage comes from a unique category of port wines that are made from a single vintage and aged in oak barrels for a minimum of seven years before bottling. Unlike Tawny Ports, which are blends of multiple vintages, Colheita Ports reflect the characteristics of a specific year, much like Vintage Ports, but they are aged longer in wood, leading to a more complex flavour profile.
Tasting notes:
Beautiful straw colour. Young, fruity fresh aromas that evolve over time, giving rise to a bouquet that brings out the aromas of dried fruits, aromas of roasting, wood and spices. …

93 Points Mark Squires - Wine Advocate
Very pale amber/tawny/orange colour. Fine and delicate aromas of hazelnuts and candied citrus. Quince marmalade character, delicate in style, with finesse and poise. Seemingly quite dry in style towards the finish (not as obviously rich as some here), and supremely refined.
