***16/20- Richard Mayson***
The wines of Quinta Do Panascal are rich, with voluptuous fruitiness, mouth filling density and a velvety texture. Being one of the most highly regarded vineyards in the Douro Valley, these ports are a pure expression of the estate’s terroir. These wines are approachable at an earlier stage but still offering the exceptional structure to lay down and enjoy a delicious vintage port for years to come.
Restrained on the nose, with licorice-like richness beneath; opulent, broad and sweet with fresh berry fruit and a touch of dark chocolate and spicy, peppery tannins on the finish.
"In complete contrast to Dow’s Senhora da Ribeira 1998, this wine (from further downstream) is open, fragrant and beautifully floral. Sweet and supple with plummy fruit balanced by firm tannins. Not big but elegant." Richard Mayson
