Barao de Villar, 1990

Colheita Port

Description and Reviews:
Appearance:
Deep amber core fading to tawny rim, with flashes of mahogany and olive-green at the edge, showing advanced maturity. Medium viscosity with slow, graceful legs.

Nose:
Pronounced and fully evolved. Layers of toasted walnut, roasted almond, and hazelnut lead. Dried fig, date, and sultana follow, intertwined with orange peel, caramelized sugar, toffee, and molasses. Subtle notes of old polished wood, pipe tobacco, espresso, and a hint of balsamic lift add complexity.

Palate:
Off-dry to medium-sweet, with vibrant, still-present acidity providing structure and freshness. Medium body, silky texture. Flavors mirror the nose: dried fruits, caramel, burnt sugar, toasted nuts, and dark chocolate, with a savory edge of spice and aged oak. Alcohol well integrated, warming but balanced.

Finish:
Long and persistent. Nutty, saline, and gently oxidative, with lingering notes of coffee, citrus peel, and caramel.
