Massolino, 2020
Barolo
94 Points- James Suckling
Description and Reviews:
The Massolino Barolo from the 2020 harvest is a fine red wine from the Piedmont region of Italy, crafted entirely from Nebbiolo grapes, renowned for its elegance and complexity. It has potential for both immediate enjoyment and aging.
Tasting Notes:
The wine presents a bright ruby-garnet hue. Its bouquet is a harmonious blend of floral aromas—such as roses and violets—complemented by raspberries and strawberries, along with hints of nutmeg, leather, and licorice, set against a balsamic and mineral backdrop. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-structured, with fine, silky tannins and a balanced acidity that promises excellent aging potential.
Serving & Food Pairing:
It is best to decant and serve it at temperatures between 18-20°C. This Barolo pairs excellently with red meats, particularly game, and dishes featuring truffles. It also complements fresh egg pasta with meat sauce, risotto, and medium-matured cow's milk and goat's milk cheeses.
Massolino is a historic family-run winery in Barolo, Piedmont, founded in 1896. Known for producing high-quality Barolo wines, it focuses on traditional winemaking methods and vineyards in prestigious Barolo crus like Margheria and Serralunga d'Alba. The winery is renowned for its elegance, structure, and long aging potential of its Nebbiolo-based wines.
