Croft Port, 2011

Vintage Port

Description and Reviews:
The near perfect viticultural conditions which prevailed in the Douro Valley in 2011 was bound to allow for great things in Croft's highly regarded Quinta da Roêda. This Quinta always forms the core around which Croft craft their Vintage Port blend, yet in this excellent year all of the blend's components have been sourced from here, producing a scented, exotic and lusciously opulent style. In the words of wine-maker David guimareans, the high perfomance of Quinta da Roêda gave this vintage 'an additional layer of density and depth of flavour' with silky, integrated tannins and powerful grip on the finish. According to MD Adrian Bridge this vintage has the usual richness and aromatics of Croft, but stands out as 'one of the most muscular and powerful of recent Croft vintages.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS
The association of Vintage Port with a mature blue cheese such as Stilton is one of the great classic food and wine combinations. The soft buttery texture, mellow character and piquancy of the cheese are perfectly matched by the powerfully majestic flavours of the Vintage Port. Other blue, buttery, mellow and slighty piquant cheeses to consider would be: Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Agur Blue.
