"The 1850 Verdelho remains an exquisite Madeira that is one of the finest ever produced in this, the founding year of the winery. It has a well-defined bouquet with seductive notes of fresh marmalade, quince, dried mango and melted candle wax. The palate is crisp and well-defined with superb acidity that is perfectly in tune with the spice-laden vestiges of decayed fruit. Colour: very dark mahogany brown, softened by golden shimmer. The range of powerful and vigorous aromas is absolutely awesome, with tinges of tangerine, dried apricots, coffee, cedar, caramel, marzipan and beeswax, offset by iodine redolent of sea-breezes. Voluptuous; potent, monumental in acidity, full and celestial, the taste goes on and on in the apotheosis of the finish. A wine that takes us near to heaven.
