Description and Reviews:
Fonseca, 1992 Vintage Port
The 1992 vintage followed the celebrated declaration of 1991 and produced a number of impressive wines from leading houses. In the Douro Valley, favourable conditions through the growing season allowed the grapes to reach excellent ripeness. While the year did not see a universal declaration, Fonseca recognised the quality of the harvest and produced a Vintage Port that reflects the house’s renowned richness and aromatic intensity.
Fonseca 1992 Vintage Port is typically opulent and expressive. The bouquet opens with layers of ripe blackberry, cassis and plum, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, spice and a touch of floral violet — a hallmark of Fonseca’s style. On the palate it is full-bodied and generous, with concentrated dark fruit, hints of mocha and liquorice, and a velvety texture supported by firm but refined tannins.
Now entering a mature phase of its life, the wine offers both depth and elegance, with a long, warming finish. It can be enjoyed now with careful decanting or cellared further for additional development. A superb choice for a 1992 birthday or anniversary, and a classic partner to blue cheeses, rich chocolate desserts or simply savoured slowly at the end of a meal.
