80 Year Tawny Port

Description and Reviews:
Kopke 80 Year Old Tawny Port stands as one of the rarest and most extraordinary expressions ever released by the world’s oldest Port house. Drawn from a tiny treasury of casks quietly ageing in Vila Nova de Gaia for nearly a century, it embodies the very essence of time: concentrated, intricate, and profoundly moving. Every drop reflects generations of careful stewardship, where evaporation, oxidation and patience have shaped a wine of unparalleled depth.

In the glass, it reveals a mesmerising mahogany core with glints of greenish-gold at the rim — a classic marker of extreme cask age. The nose is breathtakingly complex: layers of walnut husk, old cedar, fig compote, caramelised orange peel, antique furniture polish, roasted almond and subtle balsamic lift. Each swirl releases a new detail, offering the kind of aromatic tapestry that only eight decades of maturation can create.

The palate is simultaneously delicate and intense, the unique paradox of very old Tawny Port. Silky, weightless texture glides across the tongue, delivering flavours of dried apricot, hazelnut praline, coffee bean, molasses, crystallised ginger and aged citrus. The acidity is astonishingly vibrant for its age, carrying the sweetness effortlessly and extending the finish into minutes — warm, endless, and haunting.

A wine of this stature is best enjoyed on its own, contemplatively, at around 16–18°C. Serve in small tulip glasses to concentrate its aromatics. Whether acquired as a luxurious gift, a milestone celebration bottle, or an investment in liquid history, Kopke’s 80 Year Old Tawny Port is a once-in-a-lifetime experience — an authentic masterpiece from the oldest name in Port.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Tawny Ports are ready-to drink and do not require decanting. Best enjoyed slightly chilled at 12-13ºC they will work wonders if pairing with treacle tart, crème brulee or nut based desserts, like hazelnut praline.

Kopke is one of the oldest port wine houses in Portugal and is renowned for its high-quality fortified wines. Established in 1638 by Cristiano Köpke, a German diplomat, Kopke has a long history of producing exceptional port wines. Kopke is particularly known for its Colheita Ports, which are single vintage tawny ports aged in oak barrels for a minimum of seven years before bottling. These ports offer a unique expression of a single vintage and are highly prized by port wine enthusiasts. The house also produces a range of other port styles, including vintage ports, white ports, and aged tawnies. Kopke's ports are celebrated for their elegance, complexity, and longevity, making them a favorite among collectors and connoisseurs.

How to store your Tawny Port:
