Description and Reviews:
1977 Offley Boa Vista Vintage Port
The 1977 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest declared years of the 20th century for Vintage Port, producing wines of depth, power and remarkable longevity. Offley’s Quinta da Boa Vista, one of the Douro’s historic estates, crafted a Port in this year that has matured beautifully over nearly five decades.
Tasting Notes:
Now displaying a deep tawny-garnet hue with a brick-tinged rim, the nose is complex and expressive, revealing aromas of dried blackberry, plum and fig layered with notes of walnut, cedarwood, tobacco leaf and sweet spice. On the palate it is full-bodied yet harmonious, with well-integrated tannins that have softened with age. Flavours of dark cherry compote, raisin and caramelised nuts unfold alongside hints of cocoa and gentle peppery spice. A fine line of acidity keeps the wine vibrant, leading to a long, warming and elegant finish.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Decant carefully to remove natural sediment and allow the wine to breathe before serving. Best enjoyed slightly below room temperature. A classic partner to blue cheeses such as Stilton, rich chocolate desserts or simply savoured on its own at the end of a special meal.
Summary:
A mature and characterful example of 1977 Vintage Port from Offley’s historic Quinta da Boa Vista. Showing complexity, balance and the graceful evolution that extended bottle ageing brings
