Description and Reviews: 1970 Offley Boa Vista Vintage Port
A classic from one of the greatest declared vintages of the 20th century, this mature Port from Offley’s famed Boa Vista vineyard offers richness, elegance and remarkable longevity. A rare opportunity to experience a beautifully evolved wine from a legendary year.
Producer: Founded in 1737, Offley is one of the classic names of the Douro, known for combining tradition with accessibility. The Boa Vista vineyard, overlooking the river near Pinhão, is among Offley’s most historic Quintas and provides fruit for some of its finest Vintage Ports.
Vintage: 1970 is recognised as one of the truly outstanding Port vintages of the 20th century, producing wines of superb structure, depth and longevity. Now over 50 years old, well-cellared bottles continue to show remarkable complexity and elegance.
Tasting Note: The wine shows a mature tawny-garnet hue with a delicate rim. The nose reveals dried figs, dates, black tea, cedarwood, tobacco leaf and hints of dark chocolate. The palate is harmonious and layered, offering flavours of dried fruits, roasted nuts, spice, leather and subtle mocha. Tannins are integrated and silky, giving way to a long, elegant finish with lingering sweetness and nutty complexity.
Serving & Pairing: Decant carefully to remove sediment before serving. Enjoy at 16–18ºC with blue cheeses, matured cheddar, roasted nuts or rich desserts such as chocolate torte. Also a superb wine to savour on its own at the end of a meal.
Storage: Vintage Port should be stored lying down in a cool, dark place with stable temperature. Once opened, consume within 24–48 hours for peak enjoyment.
