Description and Reviews:
Quevedo White Colheita Port 2012 (Douro, Portugal)
A luminous white Colheita from this family estate in São João da Pesqueira—sunny orchard fruit framed by time in seasoned oak. In the glass it’s deep gold with light amber glints. The nose is lifted and complex: orange blossom and lemon oil, white peach and apricot, acacia honey and vanilla pod, with blanched almond, chamomile and a discreet saline note.
Silky and medium-sweet on the palate, balanced by mouth-watering acidity. Candied citrus and stone-fruit core layered with almond nougat, crème brûlée and gentle baking spice from cask ageing. The finish is long and tapering, echoing orange zest, toasted nuts and a light cedar hint.
Serve well-chilled 10–12 °C in a white-wine/Port glass. Lovely solo, or as a Portonic (1:1 with quality tonic over ice, citrus twist).
Food pairing Salted almonds and olives, prawns with aioli, goat’s cheese tart, smoked trout; desserts like lemon tart, almond cake or pastéis de nata.
Drink window Beautiful now for vibrant fruit; will gain extra nutty depth over the next 5–8 years.
