Colheita Port

Description and Reviews:
*** 93 Points Mark Squires - Wine Advocate ***

"The 2000 Colheita Port is a tawny bottled in 2013 with 103 grams per litre of residual sugar. It is a blend of Touriga Nacional (15%), Touriga Franca (35%), Tinta Roriz (20%), Tinto Cão (8%), Tinta Barroca (10%) and the famous "others" (12%), aged for five years in a balseiro of 14,000 liters and then six years in well used casks of 650 liters. This is a rather aggressive 2000, not showing a lot of caramel, complexity or lushness up front, but showing plenty of power. Oscar Quevedo said that he didn't make a Vintage Port in 2000--so most of what would have been that is here. Quality issues aside, this often seems more like a Vintage Port in style, although with a Colheita edge, relatively speaking. Powerful, concentrated and gripping, there seems to be some tannic pop and room for improvement in the bottle. I wasn't always sure it was the most classic 2000 I've seen, but it is undeniably impressive in its style. It was probably my favourite of the group shown to me in this tasting and a bit of an overachiever. It is well worth seeking out at the price point." Mark Squires - Wine Advocate.
