Description and Reviews:
Quinta do Noval benefits from a privileged position in the heart of the Douro Valley.
The vineyard of 192 hectares which is entirely classified A, is planted with the noblest grape varieties of the Douro:
Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Sousão.
The parcels of the vineyard possess a rich geographical diversity with altitudes ranging from 100m to 500m. Schist soils mixed in varying degrees with a little clay. Exposure to sunlight form all points of compass.
important figures of Quinta do Noval António José da Silva, a port shipper from Porto, acquired Quinta do Noval in 1894, after its devastation by phylloxera. He restored the property by replanting the vines.
Luiz Vasconcelos Porto, his son-in-law, was the author of a vast programme of innovations. He transformed many of the narrow older terraces into broader terraces. This permitted a more efficient use of the land and a better exposition to the sun.
