Vermouth, Non Vintage
Martini & Rossi
Description and Reviews:
The *Vermouth* from Martini & Rossi is one of the most iconic aromatised wines in the world, first created in Turin in 1863 and still crafted to a closely guarded recipe. Made from a base of carefully selected wines, it is infused with a blend of herbs, roots, spices, and botanicals—most notably wormwood (*assenzio*)—that gives it its signature balance of sweetness, bitterness, and aromatic depth. This timeless aperitif has become synonymous with Italian style and is a staple in both casual sipping and classic cocktails.
In the glass, the *Rosso* shows a warm amber-brown hue, while the *Bianco* has a pale golden straw colour—each reflecting its style and flavour profile. The nose is expressive and layered, offering herbal notes of wormwood and wildflowers, sweet spice such as cinnamon and nutmeg, and a lift of citrus peel. Subtle undertones of vanilla, caramel, and dried herbs provide added richness and intrigue.
On the palate, Martini & Rossi vermouth is smooth and rounded, with a seamless interplay between sweet wine richness and gently bitter herbal complexity. The *Rosso* style delivers flavours of spiced orange, vanilla, and caramelised herbs, while the *Bianco* is lighter and more floral, with a touch of vanilla creaminess and crisp citrus. Both have a refreshing, lingering finish that makes them equally enjoyable neat or mixed.
Traditionally served as an aperitif, Martini & Rossi vermouth is delicious over ice with a slice of orange or lemon, lengthened with soda, or used as a key ingredient in cocktails such as the Negroni, Manhattan, or Americano. More than just a mixer, it is a piece of Italian drinking heritage—blending craftsmanship, tradition, and versatility in every glass.
