1992 Port Vintage Report

The 1992 vintage was declared by some port houses who produced some rich and concentrated wines. The port was still young in 2008 and benefitted from further cellaring, making them a brilliant 27 year old wine gift for a birthday or anniversary in 2019.

Burmester Port, 1992

Vintage Port

This 1992 Vintage Port from Burmester has outstanding provenance! This bottle has been stored at the Burmester cellars on Porto since bottling until it was acquired by us earlier this year.

The 1992 Burmester is a beautiful mature tawny colour. On the nose it has cocoa, chocolate together with a hint of mint. On the palate this is quite complex - medium bodied with a perfect balance between the acidity, tannins and flavours, there is a little spiciness in the mouth that adds to the experience. Long, long finish. This is in a good place and should hold well for the next decade or so. (VWP

Fonseca Port, 1992

Vintage Port

Scoring 97 Parker Points a magnificent Port

Reviews "Fonseca has scored in both the 1991 and 1992 vintages. The 1992 is a majestic young port that should ultimately rival, perhaps even surpass this house's most recent great efforts (1985, 1977, 1970, 1963). This colossal vintage port reveals a nearly opaque black/purple color, and an explosive nose of jammy black fruits, licorice, chocolate, and spices. Extremely full-bodied and unctuously-textured, this multi-layered, enormously-endowed port reveals a finish that lasts for over a minute. It is a magnificent port that will age well for 30-40 years.

Quinta do Passadouro Vintage Port
Special Offer | Was £99 | Now £50

*** 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate ***

Produced and bottled by Niepoort, this opaque purple-colored port is more backward and tannic than Niepoort's vintage wines. Impressively endowed, with a reticent, but promising nose of chocolate, blackberry fruit, truffles, and licorice, this full-bodied, massive, moderately sweet port should be cellared until 2000. It will age well for 20-30 years. Impressive! (RP) (2/1995)

Wine Spectator

Quevedo Port, 1992

Colheita Port

*** 90 Points Roy Hersh - For the Love of Port ***

The 1992 Quevedo Colheita is an outstanding quality and value effort from this family-run estate. Oscar and Claudia Quevedo have produced a light brown port with hints of amber. On the palate there are nuts and a lovely light molasses note with coffe and spices The finish is long and lingering as befits a quality port such as this. Outstanding!

Reviews:
"This was a cask sample which Oscar Quevedo had sent to me by way of Vinologia and how often do you get to try 16 year old bottled cask samples of any wine? I can't begin to describe the color as we sat beneath the bridge on the Porto side, sipping and talking during the wee hours our first night in country (Andy/ Stewart/Roy).

A supple, charming, dark ruby/purple-colored wine, Quinta do Vesuvio's 1992 Vintage Port offers excellent concentration, a velvety texture, not much weight or tannin, a precocious, penetrating fragrance, sweet fruit, medium to full body, and a gentle finish. Dow's Port, 1992

Quinta do Bonfim

(a very rare bottle from the 1992 vintage)

*** 93 Points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews

Robert Parker 93 points
“Dow's 1992 Quinta do Bomfim is an expressive, fragrant, up-front style of port with a pungent, peppery, floral, cassis-scented nose, full-bodied, rich, chewy, ripe flavors, light tannin, and sensational extract and length. The wine explodes on the back of the palate, announcing its considerable richness and intensity. This port should drink well young, and last for 30 years.”
Wine Spectator 92 points.
"Much better than from barrel. Perhaps better than Dow's blended 1991 vintage Port.

Taylor's Port, 1992

Quinta De Vargellas Vintage Port (Bin Soiled labels)

*** 100 Points - Robert Parker ***
***19/20 Jancis Robinson***

"Taylor's 1992 Vintage Port is unquestionably the greatest young port I have ever tasted. It represents the essence of what vintage port can achieve. The color is an opaque black/purple, and the nose offers up fabulously intense aromas of minerals, cassis, blackberries, licorice, and spices, as well as extraordinary purity and penetration. Yet this is still an unformed and infantile wine. If Chateau Latour made a late-harvest Cabernet Sauvignon, I suspect it might smell like this. In the mouth, the wine is out of this world, displaying layer upon layer of concentrated black fruits backed by well-integrated tannin and structure.
