2008 Port Vintage Report

An excellent vintage for ports; had it not come so soon after the outstanding 2007 vintage, it may have been declared. The majority of the 2008 ports possess great colour extraction. The best exhibit finely tuned tannins, crisp acidity and fresh, concentrated wild berry flavours.

Dow's Port, 2008

Quinta Senhora da Ribera

Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira is set in the remote, hot and dry Douro Superior and commands a magnificent north bank position, overlooking a broad sweep of the Douro.

Senhora da Ribeira’s wines are some of the finest in the Douro and they complement those from Bomfim in the composition of Dow’s classic Vintage Ports. The latter would be incomplete if one of the two was absent.

The quinta’s high proportion of old vines (45% are over 25 years old) is of critical importance. The old vines are very low-yielding, producing on average less than 1Kg of grapes each, giving intense and concentrated musts which are ideal for classic Vintage Port.

In the mouth the wine reveals its excellent harmony and complexity, firm and obvious tannins, and noteworthy flavours of fully ripened red berries and chocolate. Fonseca Port, 2008

Quinta do Panascal Vintage Port

The wines of Quinta Do Panascal are rich, with voluptuous fruitiness, mouth filling density and a velvety texture. Kopke Port, 2008

White Colheita Port (Includes Kopke presentation box)

The 2008 Kopke White port has a cool, light-amber colour. This unique white colheita derives from the traditional white grapes of the Porto e Douro region. Starting with aromas of a Pear Clafouti and burnt sugar, this elegant port delivers luscious flavours of Japanese pear-apple, with accents of hazelnut, nutmeg and orange zest. The lingering grapefruit finish provides the perfect balance for the sweetness.

Food Pairing:
Shows finesse and sophistication when combined with caramel desserts, dried fruits and spices, like caramel fondant with apple and ginger jelly, tatin tart, burnt cream and Cheeses of minimum intensity.

Taylor's Port, 2008

Quinta Terra Feita Vintage Port

From the very good 2008 vintage, the Taylors Terra Feita displays an Inky purple black centre with a narrow violet rim. From the first moment the nose is drawn into a complex and powerful vortex of dense creamy blackberry, raspberry and cassis aromas fused with subtle notes of gumcistus and mint. This is classic Vintage Port with its extraordinary quality of fruit, combining power with refinement and complexity. The thickly textured tannins provide body and structure and the palate is brimming with fine concentrated black fruit flavour which flows over into the long finish.
Like those of Vargellas, the wines of the beautiful old property of Terra Feita are an essential component of the Taylor’s Vintage Port blend.
