1981 Port Vintage Report

No vintage port was made in 1981. Our recommendation would be for a 1981 Colheita port from 1981. Kopke are renowned for their colhietas and this would make a wonderful gift for a 40th Birthday or Anniversary

Colheita Single Harvest Port

Having spent at least seven and, in this case, a lot more years in cask, this beautiful 1981 colheita port from JW Hart is essentially a tawny port with a vintage date. On the nose it displays seductive marmalade, orange peel, citrus compote and quince jelly aromas. Luscious on the palate, although it has been bottled in 2013, this port shows great freshness with a lively acidity that balances the intensity of fruit beautifully. Reviews:
Dark tawny with orangey-red highlights. I wouldn't quite call it mahogany in colour, but it's close. Very dark, and lots of brown.
Nose: As is typical, lots of (to me) Madeira-like notes. Some leather, some dark aromatic wood like sandalwood, some apricot, and a bit of spirit.

40 Year Old Messias

Tawny Port

Very pale amber/tawny/orange colour. Fine and delicate aromas of hazelnuts and candied citrus. Quince marmalade character, delicate in style, with finesse and poise. Seemingly quite dry in style towards the finish (not as obviously rich as some here), and supremely refined.

This 40 year old tawny port displays aromas of walnuts and almonds in harmony with spicy notes, warm roasted coffee and cinnamon spice.

This is a 40 year old tawny port that has been bottled in the 80's. Due to the age of this port there may be some loss of colour and some sediment present. Since it is sealed with cork, the cork may crumble which will not have a negative effect on its taste. In this case we would advise to remove the cork bits using a sieve.
