1984 Port Vintage Report

Although there was no declaration of vintage this year, some attractive single Quinta ports were produced. These bottles are by now fully mature but will keep for years. The 1984 vintage started off with a cold wet spring, with summer not really starting until June. The first three weeks of September were fine, hot and dry, but at the end of September the temperature dropped sharply and it never recovered. However, there was good weather in the final part of the harvest and the winemakers' skills were tested in order to produce a good wine. Some excellent examples of the winemakers' talent are around, such as Messias, Warre, Dow and Fonseca. Some excellent single-harvest Colheitas were also produced.

Delaforce Port, 1984

Late Bottled Vintage port

The 1984 Delaforce Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Port is a classic expression of traditional Douro winemaking, offering a mature and approachable fortified wine experience. Bottled in 1990 after six years of aging in wood, this LBV showcases the depth and character typical of Delaforce's style.

In the glass, it presents a deep ruby hue, a testament to its well-preserved condition. The nose reveals inviting aromas of plums, fresh berries, and a hint of liquorice, indicating its complexity and maturity. On the palate, it is soft and plummy, with a round texture and mellow tannins, making it enjoyable to drink now without the need for decanting .
