2002 Port Vintage Report

The 2002 Port Vintage was a potentially excellent one for those who picked their grapes before the rains which came late in the season, however, not so great for those who did not.

Quevedo, 2002

Colheita Port, Douro
***90 Points (MS) - Wine Advocate***

2002 was a difficult year. Definitively the biggest challenge of the decade - even for Quevedo. Since no grapes were used to produced Vintage Port, their best selection was used to make this Colheita. With 20 years of ageing in their cellar, this is probably the most elegant and complex Colheita produced so far.

Burmester, 2002

Vintage Port, Douro
Presented in Wooden Gift Box
Library Release

This 2002 Burmester Vintage Port has outstanding provenance! This bottle has been stored at the Burmester cellars on Porto since bottling until it was acquired by us earlier this year.

from the very good 2002 Port Vintage the Burmester has a beautiful mature tawny colour. On the nose it has cocoa, chocolate together with a hint of mint. On the palate this is quite complex - medium bodied with a perfect balance between the acidity, tannins and flavours, there is a little spiciness in the mouth that adds to the experience. Long, long finish. This is in a good place and should hold well for a couple of decades.

J W Hart, 2002

Colheita Port, Douro

This 2002 J W Hart Tawny Colheita is elegant and complex. An amalgamation of rich flavours is marked by the presence of dried fruits, with a burst of freshness in red cherries enhanced by an exuberant note of spice. Perfect for pairing with an exquisite salted caramel tart.

Colheita Port Storage and Serving Advice:
Colheita Port should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position. If stored correctly, Colheita Ports will keep for decades in the bottle. Over time, it is natural that a little sediment will form at the bottom of a bottle of colheita Port wine.

Kopke, 2002

Colheita Port

Kopke Port is the oldest port house. Established in 1638 by Nicolau Kopke and his son Cristiano, who came to Portugal as representatives of the Hanseatic League, the House has been run through the generations by several representatives of the Kopke family, obtaining an excellent reputation for its wines.

Review:
Bright red-brown colour. Presents a complex bouquet of fruity aromas. Ideal to be served with traditional cakes, ice creams and chocolates.

With a fantastic location of the vineyards on the left bank of the River Douro, harvesting according to ancient traditions, coupled with the most modern winemaking technology, makes Kopke ports to the absolute top qualities.

93 Points - Wine Spectator
91 Points - Wine Enthusiast

We are delighted to exclusively offer in the UK these outstanding Ports and wines from one of the most iconic estate in the Douro Valley. Quinta Das Carvalhas

As wood-aged Colheitas go, this is young, emphasizing fruit rather than wood aging. That makes a spicy wine with toffee and caramel flavors that has layers of red fruits and acidity. The wood shows fitfully through at the end. Roger Voss
