Tawny Port

The Messias Tawny Port is a style of fortified wine produced by Caves Messias, characterized by its amber colour and complex flavour profile that develops from extended aging in wooden barrels. Such wines are typically less fruity and more nuanced compared to Ruby Port.

Tasting Notes:

The Messias Rosé Port is a fortified wine from Portugal produced by Messias from their vineyard at Quinta do Cachao. Porto Rosé is made exclusively from red grapes, fermented at low temperature in order to preserve the most delicate fruit aromas. It’s tremendously easy to drink, either by itself or as a cocktail.

Cask 33 Limited Edition Old Tawny Port

Sandeman’s Cask 33 is a single cask of Tawny Porto that is being launched to coincide with the celebration of Sandeman’s 225 years in 2015. The port includes wines of up to 70 years old that have been created by different generations of Sandeman master benders.

This release is a limited edition of only 685 bottles. The bottle design reproduces the style of those bottles originally used at the time of the founder in 1790 and are hand blown by one of Portugal’s last great artisanal bottle works.

Opaque black at the centre with a narrow purple rim. Uncompromisingly Taylor’s in style, elegant and precise. The nose is threaded with very fine, linear fruit, heady and complex but restrained by a graphite minerality. Quinta da Vargellas has imprinted its signature fragrance of violets, which hangs like a scented veil over the wine, and there are discreet terroir notes of citrus, wild herbs and gumcistus.
