A superb port from a good vintage. Heavy crust with a good pale red colour (most of the colour is in the crust). Wonderful fruity/alcohol nose and the taste is sublime. Still has a few years in it yet.

Fonseca Port, 1967

Guimaraens Vintage Port

The Fonseca 1967 Vintage Port stands as a testament to the enduring quality of one of Portugal's most esteemed Port houses. Bottled in 1970, this wine has matured gracefully over the decades, offering a complex bouquet of dried fruits, spice, and subtle earthy undertones. On the palate, it delivers a harmonious blend of rich fig, dark cherry, and hints of tobacco, culminating in a long, velvety finish that reflects its meticulous aging process.

When serving this vintage Port, it's essential to decant it carefully to separate it from any sediment that may have formed over time. Allowing the wine to breathe for about an hour will help in releasing its intricate aromas and flavors.

Vintage Port - In Original Krohn Box as illustrated
*Library stock from Krohn Cellars*

These bottles have impeccable provenance having been held in Krohn's own cellars since bottling. They were imported by VWP in December 2016.

Tasting note: Outstanding!! Pale tawny fading to amber on the rim. The nose is complex and multi-dimensional, notes of wild herbs, plum and mocha, coffee, tobacco around around a warm core. The palate displays a smooth, silky texture and finishes with a burst of rich mellow flavour. The finish is long and elegant. A, finely constituted port that is drinking well now but with careful cellaring it will hold for a few years.

Martinez Vintage Port, 1967

Vintage Port
In Neck | White plain label | damaged capsule

*** 93/100 - James Suckling ***

Reviews:
"A blockbuster, much better than the 1967 Cockburn. Excellent youthful ruby-red, with rich, ripe cherry aromas, full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins forming a solid backbone for the mass of fleshy fruit flavours. Will improve with more age. Score: 93/100" J Suckling, Vintage Port Book 1990.

Quinta do Noval, 1967

Vintage Port

A rare bottle of Quinta do Noval 1967 Vintage Port

Tasted at the Port Forum in 2017.
Review:
A lovely cherry red colour, 40% opaque. Another wonderful nose, with sweet cherry and mature spiced fruit. Thick in texture and flavoured with sweet red apples combine to give an impressive palate presence. Awesome balance and a terrific palate. Fragrant fruit drives the aftertaste, followed by a delicious cherry finish with a great length. This is a very fine vintage port and was my wine of the night. 94/100. Decanted 13 hours. AHB.

Sandeman, 1967

Vintage Port
(Library stock from Sandeman cellars, Oporto)

*** 93 Points for the Love of Port ***

These bottles were recently acquired from Sandeman's cellars in Oporto as part of their historic library stock. They have been specially relabelled by Sandeman to mark their 50th Anniversary.

Reviews:
93 Points Roy Hersch: "There is a first time for everything. This gentle giant is one of the very best of the Ports I have had from the lackluster 1967 vintage, which managed to produce a few very well-made VPs. The Sandeman is still in great shape. Due to the lighting it is impossible to tell the color. The aromatics dance out of the glass with ultra-potent, sweet violet and floral notes with a hint of mocha.

Taylor Fladgate, 1967

Single Harvest Tawny Port
Presented in Taylor's Beechwood case

Taylors have just announced a limited release of their 1967 Single Harvest Tawny Port. This is a new release of a rich, mellow and spicy 1967 Single Harvest Port.

It is presented in a classic Taylor’s frosted bottle, and packaged in a high quality beech-wood box.

During its five decades of ageing in oak casks, this wine has taken on an attractive pale mahogany colour with olive amber highlights. On the nose the wine displays fine oaky aromas and complex spicy, nutty, cigar box notes against a warm mellow background of butterscotch and molasses. The smooth velvety palate is lifted by a crisp acidity which gives the wine an attractive freshness in spite of its age.

Messias, 1966

Colheita Port
Gold - International Wine Challenge

Colheita Ports like the 1966 Messias are known for their exceptional aging potential. The extended aging in oak barrels allows the wine to develop complexity and a smooth, mellow character over time.

Award tasting note
"Light mahogany with wide lemon rim, raisin dated and tangerine on the rich, warm nose, generous, profound but stylish on the palate with rich supple fruit and a flossy texture, savour & deep with lovely fleshing finish".

Serving & Food Pairing
Colheita Ports are ready-to drink and do not require decanting. Best enjoyed slightly chilled at 12-13ºC they will work wonders if pairing with treacle tart, crème brulee or nut based desserts, like hazelnut praline.

Croft Port, 1966

Vintage Port
Unlabelled | Embossed Plastic Capsules

Tasting Notes: A slightly deeper core compared to the ’63. The nose is very ripe with mulberry and tobacco with a hint of balsam, just lacking a little freshness and delineation. The palate is similar to the ’63, very well-balanced and cohesive, a slightly viscous texture, fresh and surfeit with joie-de-vivre and vivacity. Wild strawberry, lemongrass and fig towards the finish, this is certainly the “dark horse” of the decade and in my humble opinion, superior to the ’63. A little gem. Tasted November 2007. Rating 93 points (outstanding)

Gould Campbell, 1966

Vintage Port

The grapes for Gould Campbell Ports are drawn from vineyards in the Cima Corgo area of the Douro, where the yields are very low (about one pipe - 550 litres - per 1,000 vines) but the wines have immense complexity and depth. The winery is situated at Pinhão, where a proportion of the wines are made in modern temperature controlled fermentation tanks, however a significant proportion of the wines for Gould Campbell Ports are still made in small quintas in the hills around Pinhão, using the ancient method of treading the grapes by foot in stone tanks called laggers.

Reviews Michael Broadbent "Vintage Wine" (Broadbent, 2002)
"Three notes at comparative tastings in 1993, still impressively powerful yet elegant and lovely.
