Description and Reviews:
An exceptionally rare large-format vintage Madeira – this 1800cl Melchior of 1987 Blandy’s Terrantez is a collector’s treasure and a dramatic centrepiece for fine wine events or cellars.

Tasting Notes:
Over three decades in seasoned oak have transformed this rare Terrantez into a wine of meditative depth and complexity. From the first pour, it reveals a rich tapestry of aromas: dried citrus peel, tamarind, wax-polished wood, and spiced walnut. There’s a lifted florality at the edges — dried chamomile and bergamot — alongside hints of tobacco leaf, ginger cake, and sea salt caramel. On the palate, tension and texture walk in perfect balance: Terrantez’s hallmark acidity brings energy to flavours of sultana, burnt orange, leather, and toasted spice. A wine of slow evolution in the glass, inviting repeated exploration — an unforgettable experience.

Serving & Food Pairing:
Decanting will help remove any deposit that may have occurred in bottle over time. Serve chilled at 12–14°C. Serve alongside rich, earthy dishes like game terrine, duck rillettes, or wild mushroom pâté for a beautifully savoury match. It also plays well with sweet–savoury contrasts: think aged Comté or blue cheese with quince paste, or roasted nuts with honey drizzle. Once opened it can be enjoyed over several months.

Cellaring Potential:
This wine is already nearly five decades old and drinking beautifully now, but its structure ensures it will remain vibrant for years to come. Store upright in a dark, fresh and dry room with constant temperature, ideally no higher than 16ºC.

Blandy's Madeira has been synonymous with quality Madeira wine for over 200 years. The Blandy's are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company. The family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira wine throughout its long history and members of the family continue to live on Madeira, maintaining a tradition that goes back to 1811.
