Description and Reviews:
Quinta do Noval 1966 Vintage Port is a superb mature wine from one of the Douro’s most prestigious estates, produced in a classic, long-lived vintage. Noval is renowned for its purity of fruit, precision and vineyard expression, and the 1966 is widely regarded as one of the standout wines of the decade. After almost sixty years in bottle, it now shows extraordinary finesse, elegance and complexity.
The nose is beautifully lifted and aromatic, with notes of dried red cherry, plum, fig and orange peel. Underneath the fruit lie layers of rose petal, cedar, warm spice and subtle herbal tones — all hallmarks of mature Noval. With time in the glass, hints of tobacco leaf, almond and old wood emerge, adding depth and refinement.
On the palate, the wine is silky, harmonious and wonderfully balanced. The tannins have softened fully, revealing a smooth texture and flavours of dried fruits, caramelised nuts, spice and a touch of cocoa. The finish is long, warming and gently persistent, showing the precision and purity that define Noval’s style across the decades.
Food pairing: Perfect with soft blue cheeses, almond tart, dark chocolate or enjoyed quietly on its own. A beautifully evolved Vintage Port from a classic year — drinking at its peak.
